Kentucky Derby pedigree profile: Blackout Time

Nicole Russo|Feb 25, 2026
Blackout Time at Del Mar Oct 27 2025
Barbara D. Livingston Blackout Time is by Not This Time and out of Beauty Parlor, who won the Grade 3 Orchid going 1 1/2 miles on turf.

Blackout Time

Colt by Not This Time – Beauty Parlor, by Elusive Quality

Bred in Kentucky by Newstead Corp ($230,000 Keeneland January short yearling purchase by Quinns Ride; $210,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling purchase by Kenny McPeek, agent)

Blackout Time made an impression when finishing second to eventual divisional champion Ted Noffey in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity around two turns at Keeneland – and he has a pedigree that should suit him well moving on to even longer distances. He is by a versatile young sire and hails from a very long-winded female family, with turf ability, which can be a harbinger of success on the Churchill Downs dirt.

Not This Time, who also has Grade 3 Holy Bull winner Nearly in the Derby Watch Top 20, finished second to seven-time reigning leader Into Mischief among North American general sires in 2025 and led both the 2-year-old and turf sire lists.

Not This Time, the leading heir to Giant’s Causeway in the United States, showed his mettle as a two-turn dirt sire with 2022 Kentucky Derby and Preakness runner-up Epicenter, who went on to lock up an Eclipse Award championship in the Travers. Not This Time is a versatile stallion and also has sired champion turf horse Up to the Mark – who won at up to 1 1/4 miles – dirt marathon specialist Next, and prominent turf sprinters Cogburn and Cy Fair.

Blackout Time's dam, Beauty Parlor, was a turf route runner who won the Grade 3 Orchid at 1 1/2 miles. She is the dam of three winners from four starters. Two of her winners, including Blackout Time, have won at a mile or longer.

Beauty Parlor came by her stamina honestly, as she is by classic sire Elusive Quality and her first two dams were both long-winded turf performers in Europe and North America.

Beauty Parlor is out of Moon Queen, a French Group 2 winner who won at up to 1 9/16 miles in Europe and who later came to the United States to win the The Very One Handicap at 11 furlongs. Moon Queen is out of Infamy, a multiple group stakes winner in England who often faced males in top company and bested them in the Grade 1 Rothmans International at 1 1/2 miles at Woodbine.
