Kentucky Derby pedigree profile: Authentic

Authentic
Into Mischief – Flawless, by Mr. Greeley
Bred in Kentucky by Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds ($350,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by SF Bloodstock/Starlight West)
Into Mischief, who claimed his first general sire title in 2019, is the sire of two classic-placed runners in the last two years. In Authentic, winner of the Grade 3 Sham Stakes by 7 3/4 lengths going a mile, he has another exciting prospect on this year’s Kentucky Derby trail.
Into Mischief has been represented in recent years by Florida Derby winner Audible, who finished third in the 2018 Kentucky Derby behind Triple Crown winner Justify and juvenile champion Good Magic, and by last year’s Preakness Stakes third-place finisher Owendale, who won three graded stakes last season at 1 1/16 miles or longer. Along with Owendale, Into Mischief was propelled to his first general sire title after years as a perennial leading juvenile sire by Eclipse Award champion 3-year-old filly and female sprinter Covfefe.

Authentic, a May foal, is unbeaten in two starts, living up to the name of his dam, Flawless. That mare won her career debut by 13 1/4 lengths going seven furlongs. In her second and final start, she was beaten a half-length in a mile allowance by Bahama Bound, who went on to be graded stakes-placed. As a broodmare, Flawless has a perfect three winners from three starters, with both of her runners in the United States having won at a mile.
Flawless has both speed and stamina in her active extended family, as her notable relatives include Group 1 Golden Shaheen winner Reynaldothewizard and the route mare Seventh Street, winner of the Grade 1 Apple Blossom and Grade 1 Go for Wand. Seventh Street is the dam of this year’s Kentucky Oaks hopeful Lake Avenue, winner of the Grade 1 Demoiselle Stakes at 1 1/8 miles.
