Super Saturday at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai was run without fans in attendance, owing to coronavirus concerns, and came a week after the inaugural Saudi Cup, which sucked away some high-level talent that in previous years might’ve raced at Meydan. Yet the seven-race program on Saturday still produced a series of eye-catching performances.

The featured fourth race Sunday at Sha Tin is a Class 1 handicap that could pass as a Group 1 stakes. The 1,200-meter sprint drew only six entrants but among them are three of the top four rated sprinters in Hong Kong: Hot King Prawn, Mr. Stunning, and Full of Beauty.
From Tuesday through Friday, there will be 28 races at Cheltenham Racecourse, a popular venue approximately 100 miles west of London. The four-day racing week typically attracts about 260,000 fans, many of whom travel from throughout England and Ireland to root on horses that ran in past seasons and have had prep races through the winter.
The Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 on Saturday at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai carries a $600,000 purse. A race in the same division and region, the Saudi Cup, was run Feb. 29 for a $20 million purse. You can imagine where all the best older dirt-route horses on the Arabian Peninsula wound up.
