How to bet Saturday's CashCall Futurity Pick 4 at Hollywood Park

Michael Hammersly|Dec 16, 2011

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's Pick 4 at Hollywood Park. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com.

Race 7: Maiden Special Weight ($45,000)

Baffert appears to have a strong hand with promising firsters BOBBY FLAY and VISIBLE MARQ. Both have worked superbly though both are drawn alongside one another on the inside. BOBBY FLAY’s 3 sibs are multiple winners while VISIBLE MARQ is kin to Masala (6 wins, $258K, SP). KOAST debuts off a full, solid work tab. The $200K son of champion Lawyer Ron hails from the Sadler barn which is strong first out (23%). OUR LUCKY SON acts like a runner with a number of strong works (5 bullets).

Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming ($40,000)

COLUDA looked super blasting claimers as he returned to synthetic footing. That was also just his 2nd starts after 14 months on the bench so he may have more improvement left in him. It’s a great sign, too, that after risking him for a tag in that last win Sadler takes no such risk today. There are 3 nice works since, too.

Race 9: CashCall Futurity (Grade 1 $750,000)

LIAISON is progressing into a potential Derby horse for Baffert. He may not be brilliant like say stablemate Secret Circle but his grinding style is more reminiscent of Baffert’s Real Quiet, who won this race. He has the versatility to do what’s needed, but it’s a tough race. ROUSING SERMON gave the top pick fits when rallying to be 2nd behind him in the Real Quiet and figures to be coming at him again. He’s been working splendidly. COZZETTI blasted maidens at CD like a comer and Romans isn’t shipping out here for the sights. Which DRILL do we get, the one who looked like a real comer this summer or the guy who tossed in 2 recent duds? Baffert has reported being encouraged by this guy’s recent works and the fact he enters him speaks of optimism. MAJESTIC CITY is a question mark at this distance but there’s no denying his speed and his affection for this track, and it’s likely he’s the one they have to reel in. BASMATI ran into a tiger at DED and prior to that was competitive with the best out West.

Race 10: Maiden Claiming ($20,000)

TO THE TOP boasts some strong works including a bullet :59.40 move here Dec. 1 for Mitchell who has superb first-out numbers (31%). SUBLTE GREEK showed plenty of talent last spring. She hasn’t started since early April but some good works hint she’s ready. GOLDEN NIP improved in her 2nd start after nearly a year on the bench. That last run came for $40K so there’s a crucial drop for new trainer Miller who also adds blinkers. CRESTON CUTIE certainly merits respect after a pair of 2nds to start her career, both at this game and level.
