How to bet Santa Anita's Pick 4 - March 2, 2013

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's pick four at Santa Anita on March 2, 2013. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com, and using $0.50 incremental bets with a $100.00 budget.

Race 8 (Allowance Optional Claimer)

SIR BOND (#6) comes off a fine 3rd going longer and may be better at this shorter trip. MENSA HEAT (#11) may not be as good as he once was he’s still got oomph and was claimed off a troubled hillside run. PATRIOT’S VOYAGE (#7) got back on track with a big win here Feb. 1, gets a nice class hike and boasts a bullet since. ROUSING SERMON (#5) was on the Derby trail last year but could be he’s better around one turn. ZACKN’MAT (#8) ran on nicely in a real fast heat, his first start in almost a year.

Race 9 (Frank E. Kilroe Mile Stakes)

MR. COMMONS (#8) has been knocking heads with the best milers in the world. He’s been freshened since a fine BC Mile run (5th) and he just missed winning this last year (2nd, beaten a neck). SUGGESTIVE BOY (#3) looked super blasting some of these in the Grade 2 Arcadia last month, from a brutal post no less. SILENTIO (#1) had a tough trip in the Arcadia and with better racing luck is dangerous. WILKINSON (#7) was a fine 2nd in the Arcadia and looks headed back to the form that took him to victory in the Grade 2 American at BHP last spring.

Race 10 (Santa Anita Handicap)

GAME ON DUDE (#9) thinks he owns this track. He’s won 6 of his 7 starts here, the lone loss coming in the toughest of races, last fall’s Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic. He won this race in 2011, looked super winning the San Antonio and with his speed can get first run on RON THE GREEK (#1). That rival, however, is one tough cookie. He’s back to defend his title and comes off a romping win at GP.

Race 11 (Maiden Special Weight)

FOREST BOY (#7) moves back to his best game. He’s tried routing a few times but hasn’t thrived. His sprints, however, have been strong. BAD BEHAVIOR (#6) brings superb works into his debut for Baffert, who is well known for firing first out. JOE TESS (#11) acts like a runner as the son of 2yo champ Macho Uno boasts a bunch of bullet works. STORM POWER (#5) flashed talent last summer at DMR and has worked superbly for his return. WINE STOCK (#8) is another Baffert first who has worked well and is kin to Grade 1-placed Bourbon Courage.

My wagers

With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to maximize my budget for this pick four - and come out $14.00 under budget.
