How to bet Keeneland's Pick 4 - April 19, 2013

Michael Hammersly|Apr 17, 2013

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Friday's pick four at Keeneland on April 19, 2013. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com. I'm betting in increments of $0.50 with a budget of $100.00.

Race 7 (Allowance Race)

ANIMAL STYLE (#2) comes here razor sharp from FG having won a turf sprint stakes from well off the pace, and finishing a sharp 2nd in another while pressing the issue. AMARISH (#4) made quite a splash when starting his career in SoCal with 2 huge wins. Things went south afterward but his first turf try wasn’t bad. RIP ROARIN RITCHIE (#9) is 3 for 4 on turf, one of those being a SW. He comes off a sharp win despite trouble at GP. CIRCLE UNBROKEN (#8) is a Grade 3 winner on dirt and while a couple graded routes proved far too much for him at FG he’s down in class and back to sprinting and is bred for turf.

Race 8 (Allowance)

WINDSWEPT (#8) hasn’t run in a long time but this guy was good enough to get a shot at a Grade 2 when last seen in Oct. 2011 and trainer Lopresti is proven off a long layoff. TATER DOWNS (#4) continues his sharp form and fits well here. ARC ABOVE (#9) has shown turf talent and you’ve seen many a turf runner enjoy moving to this track. He’s been working splendidly. STARTER (#10) wasn’t far behind TATER DOWNS (#4) when 3rd at FG March 16 so he fits. He ran well here a year ago. WINTER’S FURY (#6) has run well on synthetic footing, including a win here in the fall.

Race 9 (Doubledogdare Stakes)

MYSTICAL STAR (#5) is just a couple notches below the best gals in the land and note strong work on this main track on which she’s 2 for 3, the lone loss coming when 2nd in the Grade 1 Spinster. INGLORIOUS (#3) is 5 for 7 on synthetic, all that coming on WO’s Polytrack, the same surface she gets here.

Race 10 (Maiden Claimer)

WAMBRI (#11) comes off a strong run at DED, drops, gets Leparoux and has worked sharply here. ON THE KEY (#8) was a solid 2nd at this level at GP and 2 big local works encourage. DISTORTIONIST (#3) rallied for 2nd here April 7 and gets an encouraging step up in price. RAPID RANGER (#6) took a big step forward at TP March 29 and may be ready to turn the corner. AFLEET BANDIT (#7) hasn’t run since Nov. 2011 but he showed talent then and has worked well for his return for a trainer well known for firing off the bench.

My wagers

With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to maximize my budget for this pick four, and I come out $8.00 under budget.
