How to bet the Hastings Pick 4 for Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012

Michael Hammersly|Sep 07, 2012

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Sunday's pick four at Hastings on Sept. 9, 2012. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com. The bets are in $0.50 increments and my budget is $100.

Race 7 (Claiming race)

SILVER STREET (#9) plummets in class after an encouraging first local start and first outing of any kind in seven months. PLAY FOR PEACE (#4) dueled and paid the price July 28 but may be the speed of the field today.

Race 8 (Delta Colleen Handicap)

CLASS INCLUDED (#6) is the reigning queen of EMD. She comes off two powerful wins there and is no stranger to this place, having won the BC Oaks and running 2nd (beaten just a neck) in the Grade 3 Ballerina here a year ago. HEIDI MARIA (#3) comes here razor sharp having won 3 of her last 4 including a romping stakes win at NP Aug. 25. TERLANI (#2) has also won 3 of her last 4 and has worked splendidly for her first start in almost 3 months.

Race 9 (British Columbia Derby)

Brutally tough race. SECOND CITY (#7) invades from back East off 3 romping wins. No telling how good he might be. DEVIL IN DISGUISE (#1) won 3 straight and was a good 3rd in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby. He’s part of a potent entry with TAYLORS DEAL (#1a), a winner of 4 of his last 5 including a big stakes win here Aug. 6, and HOIST (#1x), who invades with proven form at BEL and SAR. D’ HONORABLE ONE (#9) fires every time and figures in the thick of it. ITALIAN BOY (#3) invades from EMD where he’s one of that track’s top 3-year-olds, having won 4 straight before finishing a strong 2nd in the Emerald Derby. HIGH END MAN (#5) comes off a romping win in the Richmond Derby here and may be this good.

Race 10 (Sadie Diamond Futurity)

WILLAMETTE (#10) has been knocking on the door and may be ready to bust through. I WANT TO DUST HER (#9) finished full of run to just miss to TEMPERED STEEL (#5) Aug. 24 and may be ready to turn the corner. TEMPERED STEEL rallied gamely for a stakes win last month and appears to be getting things figured out. LIL MISS BEAN (#1) left herself with too much to do in a stakes last time but note she beat WILLAMETTE anyway.

My wagers

With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to maximize my budget for this pick four.
