How to bet the Friday Breeders' Cup Pick Six

Kenny Peck|Nov 03, 2011

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Friday's Breeders' Cup Pick 6 at Churchill Downs. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com.

Race 5: Juvenile Sprint

Many players will concede the race to favorite Secret Circle (6), and strictly use him as a single, but I do like Holdin Bullets (7) at least as well, and even better when price is brought into the equation. Seeker (1) and Vexor (9) are certainly capable, while Trinniberg (4) and Shumoos (5) were added as insurance.

Race 6: Juvenile Fillies Turf (G2)

Elusive Kate (10) looks like the best horse in this field, and she's the most likely winner, especially with Somali Lemonade (14) stuck all the way outside. There are a couple of intriguing horses on the AE list in Bourbonstreetgirl (15) and Karlovy Vary (16), and I wanted to include them, but there's a good chance they won't get in, and that will take the ticket cost down appreciably.

Race 7: Filly & Mare Sprint (G1)

I'm not sold on Turbulent Descent (3) as a stand-alone play. In fact, I'll be looking to beat her when betting the race individually, so I wasn't inclined to make her an "A" play for the purposes of this ticket, as she makes her first start against older, and this is a considerable class rise. I really like Golden Mystery (9), not only because of her speed but also due to her solid works, and she's a key for me in all pools on Friday's card.

Race 8: Juvenile Fillies (G1)

My Miss Aurelia (9) is an obvious horse to use extensively but I'm giving equal strength to Northern Passion (10), who figures a big price despite solid form. Putthebabiesdown (7) has a decent shot at a huge price, and I wanted to remain in a decent position if she can upset this field, making her more of a "B" than a "C" play.

What's this?

Race 9: Filly & Mare Turf (G1)

Very tough to seperate the Europeans in this one, with Stacelita (2), Nahrain (5) and Announce (6) seemingly very close in terms of ability. This grouping does substantially increase the ticket cost but designating one of them seemed to be splitting hairs, and they do seem to hold the edge over the rest of this field.

What's this?

Race 10: Ladies' Classic (G1)

Royal Delta (6) is the most likely winner of the Ladies Classic, but Pachattack (2) has been solid in her last couple, and her Beyers are among the best in this field. Plum Pretty (8) is the likely favorite and merits inclusion on the ticket even though she could regress off that last figure, while Ultra Blend (7) has consistent figures.

My wagers

With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to maximize my budget for this pick six.
