Betfair Hollywood Park

How to bet Betfair Hollywood Park's Pick 4 - Saturday, July 7, 2012

Michael Hammersly|Jul 06, 2012

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's pick four at Betfair Hollywood Park on July 7, 2012. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com. I'm on a budget of $100 and betting in $0.50 increments.

Race 7 (Claiming race)

RUN FOR MILES (#11) dueled and paid the price in a similar spot here May 28 but was claimed that day by the red-hot Spawr (8 for first 19, 42 percent, this meet). CRAGMONT (#7) was 2nd to a runaway winner in a similar spot here May 24 and worked splendidly since (3 bullet works). ARAGORN SWORD (#6) came back after 10 months off to rally nicely for 3rd in a spot like this here June 15 after a troubled start. He likes it here as his big maiden win a year ago came here.

Race 8 (Royal Heroine Mile)

QUIET OASIS (#5) did everything right when she dueled in the Grade 1 Gamely but couldn’t fend off top-class Belle Royale, while 3rd finisher Capital Plan came right back to win the Grade 3 Beverly Hills. ALL STAR HEART (#4) has won 3 straight and 5 of her last 6, and her last win came in a stakes on this course at this trip after 7 months off so if anything she’s eligible to improve. She’s 2 for 2 here and 6 for 7 at this trip. UP IN TIME (#2) returns home after chasing 3 top-class girls in a Grade 1 at Belmont last month. This is a better spot and she figures to be coming. NEREID (#8) can jump with a big run and her best can win this.

Race 9 (Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap)

It’s Baffert’s world and we just live in it. He has a stranglehold on this with RICHARD’S KID (#2) who looked good as ever winning the Prove It and figures in the hunt from the start, and GAME ON DUDE (#6), 2nd in this last year and the one to beat off a superb Grade 2 Californian tally.

Race 10 (Maiden claiming race)

AWESOME MIKE (#2) made a threatening move before flattening out here June 22 but that was his first start in 3 months so he can improve. CLASSICAL HY (#5) has been knocking on the door and may bust through here. SOLANA SOLEIL (#4) has been freshened. She flashed talent last summer.

My wagers

With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to maximize my budget for this pick four - and end up $7 under my budget of $100.
