Betfair Hollywood Park

How to bet the Betfair Hollywood Park Pick 4 - April 28, 2012

Michael Hammersly|Apr 27, 2012

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's pick four at Betfair Hollywood Park on April 28, 2012. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com, with a $100 budget and $0.50 incremental bets.

Race 7 (Claiming race)

STREAKIN’ MOHICAN (#3) nearly won the Kerlan on this course last summer as part of a smart 2011 campaign, and he’s a winner on this course. After a lengthy vacation he pressed the pace on SA dirt before finishing 5th but Spawr saw fit to claim him, has freshened him and moves him back to turf. MY SUMMER SLEW (#2) has done his best work on this course, including winning the 2010 Kerlan. He comes off 3 very nice outings on the SA hillside course after 11 months on the bench so he’s doing very nicely at age 7 and the return to this layout may be just what the Dr. ordered to get back to the winner’s circle. INUIT FISHER (#7) rattled off 4 straight good efforts this past fall/winter, 3 on turf. He’s been freshened and a bullet :59.80 move April 22 says he’s doing well. BLUE JAY ATTACK (#6) certainly merits respect as both grass wins came on this course at this trip.

Race 8 (The Snow Chief)

CORNER OFFICE (#1) may be a 1 1/8-mile horse. He routed well already and after facing elders on the SA dirt may enjoy getting back in vs. 3yos only. He ran well on this track in the fall. STONEY FLEECE (#10) is the one to beat as he’s a Grade 3 winner and 2-time winner on synthetic footing. UNUSUAL HEATWAVE (#3) is progressing well for Barba and Bejarano sees fit to ride off a strong 1:12.80 work here April 21. BENCH LIGHT (#7) has upset potential as he goes back to routing and synthetic footing.

Race 9 (The Tiznow)

M ONE RIFLE (#6) posted his lone Grade 1 win at SA but his best work the past couple years has come on this track. His last 3 triple-digit Beyers (114, 103 and 100) were all posted here and off the freshening with some smart works and blinkers he looks spotted for action. MOBILIZED (#1) ran 3rd in this race last year (to sprint champion Amazombie) and may be even sharper this time as he rallied to win a tough grass sprint at SA last month. ITALIAN RULES (#5) continues to fire bullets having won 4 of his last 5, and his March 4 win came at the expense of M ONE RIFLE, who ran 3rd.

Race 10 (The NTRA)

MEL’S GAME (#16), on the AE list, debuts with strong works and Rosario for Mitchell, who has superb first-out numbers. ENDURING PROMISE (#14) is the proven commodity as he comes off 3 straight second-place finishes (DQ’d to 5th in one of those). VALENTINE BOY (#3) flashed talent at DMR last July when a game 2nd. He hasn’t been seen since but has worked well. If MEL’S GAME doesn’t go, substitute SWIFT EAGLE (#2), a 5yo who took a nice step forward in start No. 2 at SA March 24, rallying gamely for 2nd on turf. He’s worked well here.

My wagers

With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to maximize my $100 budget for this pick four, and wind up $14 under budget.
