How to bet $250K guaranteed Evening Attire Aqueduct Pick 4
Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's Pick 4 at Aqueduct. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com.
Race 6: Claiming $7,500
SPLENDID BEHAVIOR and FIERY FOOTWORK regularly ran races that are too fast for these bottom-level claimers throughout 2010/2011, and while both have questions surrounding their current form, either one would be hard to leave off the ticket. FIERY FOOTWORK (#5) fired second-off of a long layoff to break maiden at the end of 2010, and will now make second start back after eight month break, this time off the claim by Rick Dutrow. SPLENDID BEHAVIOR (#4) was last seen almost exactly a year ago, wiring $15k claimers on speed favoring track with an 87 Beyer, but trainer not great with horses off long layoffs. They are both A’s on the Pick 4 ticket. Longshot KEY VICTORY (#8) is an infrequent winner, and has raced mostly on grass, but he’s a better sprinter on that surface, and was in contention to midstretch vs. allowance company in dirt sprint two back. He’s not really the kind of horse to try to make money on in multi-race bets, but I’ll use him as a C. DIVINE CHILD (#11) has disappointed since arriving in NY, but drops to lowest level yet for sharp outfit and will have pace to run at. He’s a B.
Race 7: Allowance $67,000
RAISON D’ETAT (#7) has only maiden win to his credit as he enters 4yo season, but he may yet turn out to be a factor in some major races in 2012. Faced tough scenarios in each of last two starts - caught wide on the move throughout the Discovery Handicap, and trapped down on the rail in paceless race on Dec. 17. He’s the A. GHAALEB (#2) faces tough rival for first stretch-out attempt, but has look of a talented horse, and is the only backup.
Race 8: Evening Attire $75,000
REDDING COLLIERY (#6) missed a year of racing after tough trip in Gr1 Clark at end of successful 2010 campaign. Return at Penn National looked like a prep as they rated the break, but he’s at his best on the front and should be going in here. I WANT REVENGE (#2) hasn’t won since eventful Wood Memorial here almost three years ago. Sparingly raced since, but remains capable. EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH (#1) is dangerous as the in-form horse with a good post, the caveat being that all of his big races/figures have come at home base Laurel. Using all three of these horses should lock up the race for Pick 4 purposes.
Race 9: Maiden $15,000
MR ROSENTHAL (#10) couldn’t make the front in either of last two starts, but may play out as the speed in this spot, and that alone makes him dangerous in race where the sixteen horses entered have combined to make 209 starts without a win. TYCOON CAT (#11) is likely favorite dropping down off five month break, and is unlikely to find softer spot than this one as he makes first dirt sprint start for a tag. The top 2 choices here will be my A’s in the Pick 4. I’ll also use WARRIOR FROM ABOVE (#4) , who just missed at this level last time after squeezing through tight opening stretch, along with CHAPEL CHIEF (#1), who drew poorly on the rail but should be competitive with this field. TRINITY WARRIOR (#13), PURPLE PICO (#14) and DIGITAL JOE (#16) are all mired on the AE list, but could factor here if they draw in so I’ll include them, as well.
