After Bolt d’Oro captured the Del Mar Futurity and Moonshine Memories won the Del Mar Debutante, their half-siblings fetched $250,000 and $750,000, respectively, at the Keeneland September yearling sale, thanks to those Grade 1 catalog updates. Those price tags will look like bargains if Bolt d’Oro and Moonshine Memories complete unbeaten seasons. They are expected to start as favorites in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies. Sagamore Farm purchased Bolt d’Oro’s half-brother, a Curlin colt out of the A.P. Indy mare Globe Trot. The mare is also the dam of stakes winner Sonic Mule. :: BREEDERS’ CUP 2017: Pre-entries, odds, comments, and more “The dam has already thrown two runners, and this horse looks like a runner, so there is no reason to think he won’t be a runner,” said Stanley Hough, who signed the $250,000 ticket for Sagamore. Andrew Cary, the general manager of consignor Select Sales, noted that classic sire Curlin added to the colt’s appeal. “Curlin certainly needs no advertisement,” Cary said. “It just kind of all lined up with the update. On his own merit he is a lovely horse, and the update gave him an extra boost. He was a high-quality horse before, so the update was the icing on the cake. “ Moonshine Memories’s dam, Unenchantedevening, has also produced stakes winner Indian Evening and stakes placed Mo for the Money. It is the family of Favorite Trick, who earned Horse of the Year honors for his 2-year-old campaign in 1997. Unenchantedevening’s Distorted Humor yearling filly sold for $750,000 to Robert and Lawana Low. Bloodstock agent Jacob West, who signed the ticket, said the filly would eventually join Todd Pletcher’s barn. “Young Distorted Humor filly, obviously massive updates in the pedigree,” he said. “We kind of knew [the price would be high] going in. I said, ‘It’s the perfect recipe for success for a filly to bring a lot of money.’ She was an outstanding physical, with pedigree behind her, and updates.” :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales
