Gun Pilot under consideration for Rebel Stakes

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Gun Pilot is being considered for a Kentucky Derby points race following his Feb. 4 allowance win at Oaklawn Park.
Trainer Steve Asmussen said Wednesday that the horse is under consideration for the Grade 2, $1 million Rebel on Feb. 25 at Oaklawn.
Gun Pilot has made two starts at the current meet. He was second to Daily Racing Form Derby Watch member Verifying in a first-level allowance on Jan. 14. Gun Pilot then won an entry-level allowance at a mile, overcoming traffic and accelerating for a two-length win. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 87.
“It was an excellent race,” Asmussen said. “He handled nicely and looked very good. He will be under consideration for the Rebel.”
