LOUISVILLE, Ky. – It was a tough morning for jockey Tyler Gaffalione, who saw his original mounts for the Kentucky Derby (Fulleffort) and Kentucky Oaks (Bella Ballerina) scratch due to injury.  Gaffalione wasn’t without mounts in those Grade 1 races for very long.  Trainer Whit Beckman said Thursday afternoon that he will put Gaffalione on both Ocelli in the Derby and Nycon in the Oaks. Both of Beckman’s horses drew into their respective races from the also-eligible list. Joe Ramos was previously named on Ocelli, while Jaime Torres was named on Nycon.  “Tyler is the leading rider at Churchill Downs every year,” Beckman said. “He’s a top-three rider in the country. He’s ridden on this stage many times and won most of these types of races, with the exception of the Derby. That’s not a knock against the guys who were riding these horses.” :: DRF Kentucky Derby Package: Save on Past Performances, Clocker Reports, Betting Strategies, and more. Gaffalione is 0 for 7 in the Derby, though he did finish second, beaten a nose, aboard Sierra Leone in 2024. Gaffalione won the Kentucky Oaks in 2023 aboard Pretty Mischievous. Torres, who has ridden Nycon in all five of her starts, rode Flying Mohawk to an 18th-place finish in the 2025 Kentucky Derby for Beckman.  Torres won the Preakness aboard Seize the Grey in 2024 and this year won graded stakes on both Incredibolt and Albus on their way to the Kentucky Derby. Torres will ride Incredibolt for trainer Riley Mott in the Derby. :: KENTUCKY DERBY 2026: Top contenders, point standings, news, and more
