A full sister to Preakness Stakes winner Rombauer topped the session at $400,000 as the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s June sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age continued with solid figures on Thursday. Thursday's session was the second of three for this sale, the penultimate auction of the 2-year-old sale season overall; horses of racing age will be offered during Friday's third and final session. In last year's comparable second session of the OBS June sale, 216 juveniles sold for $7,561,200. The session-topping filly, by Twirling Candy, was purchased by John Stewart's Resolute Racing. She tied the top price of the sale thus far with a $400,000 Tiz the Law filly sold Wednesday, and shares a few other similarities with that filly. Both were consigned by Tom McCrocklin, as agent, and they shared the fastest quarter-mile time at last week's under-tack preview show. Both fillies had worked in 20 2/5 seconds on the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack. The Twirling Candy filly is out of the unraced Cowboy Cal mare Cashmere, dam of six winners from as many starters. Those are led by Rombauer, winner of the 2021 Preakness Stakes, and third in that year's Belmont Stakes among his multiple Grade 1 placings. Cashmere, who also produced stakes-placed Cono, is a half-sister to Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint winner California Flag and to graded stakes winner Cambiocorsa. The latter is the dam of graded stakes winners Moulin de Mougin and Schiaparelli, and is the second dam of European Horse of the Year Roaring Lion.
