A $400,000 filly from the first crop of Tiz the Law led Wednesday’s opening session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s June sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age as the penultimate juvenile sale of the season opened with solid results. OBS reported 173 horses sold for a total of $6,825,500 in Wednesday's session, the first of three overall. In last year’s first session, 225 sold for a total of $8,047,900. The average price was $39,454, a gain of 10 percent compared to $35,768 in 2023. The median price was $21,000, up 5 percent compared with $20,000 a year ago. The buyback rate was 33 percent in what has been a very selective marketplace, compared to 15 percent last year. The session-topping filly is from the first crop of Tiz the Law, winner of the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at 2 and then an additional trio of top-level races at 3 in 2020 – the Florida Derby, Belmont Stakes, and Travers Stakes. His session-topper was purchased by Bill Childs from the consignment of agent Tom McCrocklin. The filly, an April 30 foal, had distinguished herself by working a quarter-mile in 20 2/5 seconds during last week’s under-tack preview show. She was one of two who tied for the bullet at that distance on the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack. :: Get the Inside Track with the FREE DRF Morning Line Email Newsletter.
