Female syndicate gets first win

Doug McCoy|Mar 23, 2015

OLDSMAR, Fla. -- Fortunately for the track photographer, just a portion of the 32-woman syndicate that is Fast Women LLC was on hand when its Minimambo won Saturday’s fifth race, otherwise the picture in the winner’s circle would have needed a Panavision lens.

Fast Women LLC was created by Donna Freyer, who breaks and develops young runners at her Custom Care LLC operation in Camden, S.C. According to Minimambo’s trainer, Maria Bowersock, Freyer told her a number of women had visited her operation and expressed interest in getting involved in racing. Freyer got the group together and bought Minimambo for $7,000 as a weanling in 2012.

The Minimambo team is women from top to bottom. Bowersock trains the filly, and Rosemary Homeister Jr. was aboard when Minimambo dominated a group of $32,000 maiden-claiming routers going a mile on turf, winning by almost four lengths.

Speaking of Homeister, she had a big week, winning four races Friday and then coming back to take two more on Saturday’s card.
