Ete Indien has suffered “a little setback,” trainer Patrick Biancone informed Tuesday, and thus will not run Saturday in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth. Biancone, in a text, did not detail the setback. Biancone said Ete Indien will now train straight into the Kentucky Derby on Sept. 5. Ete Indien most recently was fourth in an allowance race on June 10 at Gulfstream Park that was won by his stablemate, Sole Volante. Ete Indien has not worked since June 28, when he worked six furlongs on the turf at Palm Meadows. That is his lone work since the June 10 allowance. Ete Indien won the Fountain of Youth earlier in the year and was third in the Florida Derby. As for Sole Volante, Biancone informed that he is being pointed to the Ellis Park Derby on Aug. 9. Sole Volante most recently was sixth in the Belmont Stakes on June 20. He has no published works since that race. * With jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. staying put at Saratoga to ride, Joe Bravo has picked up the mount on Dr Post in the Haskell, according to trainer Todd Pletcher. :: KENTUCKY DERBY 2020: Derby Watch, point standings, prep schedule, news, and more
