Eddie’s New Dream’s collection of stakes wins against California-breds continues to grow. On Friday at Del Mar, Eddie’s New Dream benefited from an ideal trip to win the $151,000 Solana Beach Stakes for statebred fillies and mares at a mile on turf. Ridden by Mario Gutierrez for owners and breeders Paul and Zillah Reddam, Eddie’s New Dream ($7.20) stalked pacesetter Chancery Way to the top of the stretch and pulled away to win by 1 1/4 lengths over 3-1 Rose Maddox. Chancery Way (11-1) held third, followed by Madiha, Ultimate Hy, Harper’s Gallop, Sunshine Babe, and Glorious Spring. Ultimate Hy, the 6-5 favorite, was well placed in early stretch in pursuit of Chancery Way, but was not a factor in the final furlong. Eddie’s New Dream was timed in 1:36.16. She gave trainer Ben Cecil his first stakes win at Del Mar since Listing won the I’m Smokin Stakes for statebred 2-year-olds for the Reddams in 2019. Cecil did not attend Friday’s race because of illness, Paul Reddam told a television audience. Eddie’s New Dream, a 5-year-old mare by Square Eddie, has won 8 of 26 starts and earned $705,580. The Solana Beach Stakes was her fourth stakes win in the last 17 months, all against California-breds. :: DRF's 2023 Del Mar headquarters: Previews, past performances, picks, recaps, news, and more.
