Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf: Catch a Glimpse training up to race

Catch a Glimpse will take advantage of the expenses-paid berth in the Grade 1, $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf that she earned by winning the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine on Sept. 12.
Trained by Mark Casse, the Kentucky-bred daughter of City Zip controlled the Win and You’re In, one-mile race on turf right from the start. The 89 Beyer Speed Figure she earned is the highest figure given to any 2-year-old running on grass in North America this year.
In her debut, Catch a Glimpse finished fifth on a sloppy track in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race that was washed off the turf at Saratoga on July 30. Moving to the lawn, she won a seven-furlong, non-conditional allowance race at Woodbine on Aug. 22 and followed it up with the five-length romp over Gamble’s Ghost in the Natalma.

Casse said Catch a Glimpse will be shipped this week to Keeneland, where he will train her into the one-mile Juvenile Fillies Turf on Oct. 30.
The other Win and You’re In race already run was the Group 1 Molyglare Stud Stakes. The seven-furlong race contested over yielding turf at The Curragh was won by Minding. She is trained by Aidan O’Brien, who also saddled the runner-up, Ballydoyle, and third-place finisher Alice Springs.
There is a good chance that at least one of the three fillies will run in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, but there has been no confirmation.
It is too early to know how many horses will make the trip from Europe. However, following Lumiere’s runner-up finish in the Group 2 Pinsent Mason Lowther Stakes at York on Aug. 20, trainer Mark Johnston said there is a good chance she will be coming to Keeneland. According to Johnston, the main reason for the trip is Lumiere’s preference for firm turf.

This Sunday’s $200,000 Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont will help identify at least one serious contender. Last year’s BC Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, Lady Eli, used the Miss Grillo as her final prep.
Lady Eli is trained by Chad Brown, who won the inaugural running of the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf with Maram in 2008. Maram also went into the race off a win in the Miss Grillo.
The Bill Mott-trained Harmonize figures to be favored in the Miss Grillo. She is coming off an impressive four-length win in the P.G. Johnson at Saratoga on Sept. 3.
