Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies: Top speed horses draw inside and outside posts

Artemis Agrotera, Oct. 5, 2013
Tom Keyser Mike Hushion has been teaching Artemis Agrotera to relax but she will likely have to use her speed from the inside post.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Artemis Agrotera and She’s a Tiger, the two horses who appear to have the most early speed, drew the rail and extreme outside post, respectively, in a 10-horse field entered Monday for Saturday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita.

The Juvenile Fillies, the first Breeders’ Cup race on Saturday’s card, will be run at 1 1/16 miles and there is a short run from the gate to the first turn.

Artemis Agrotera is accustomed to being on the inside having won her debut from the rail at Saratoga and the Grade 1 Frizette at Belmont Park from post 2. Since the Frizette, trainer Mike Hushion had been training Artemis Agrotera to relax with the hopes of getting her to relax early on in the race.

She’s a Tiger, trained by Jeff Bonde, had the outside post in a seven-horse field when she finished second, beaten a head by Secret Compass, in the Grade 1 Chandelier run at Santa Anita on Sept. 28.

“For my horse I don’t think it’s a problem,” Jeff Bonde, trainer of She’s a Tiger, said of post 10. “I just like my horse. Everybody’s got to go in the gate. I wouldn’t have wanted 1, other than that I don’t care. We’re good.”

Trainer Leah Gyarmati didn’t seem to care about Sweet Reason drawing post 9 as her late-running filly, who won the Grade 1 Spinaway, figures to drop over entering the first turn and come with a late run.

“I don’t think it matters with her running style,” Gyarmati said.

In between Artemis Agrotera and Sweet Reason in the gate, in order, will be Rosalind, Designer Legs, Secret Compass, Ria Antonia, Concave, Untapable, and Scandalous Act.
