Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies: Top contenders have differing workout objectives

The workout objectives for some of the top Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies contenders will differ in the three weeks leading up to the Grade 1, $2 million race at Santa Anita on Nov. 2.
For the undefeated Artemis Agrotera, who won the Grade 1, $500,000 Frizette last Saturday at Belmont Park, it will be all about maintenance.
“I don’t think I’ll be doing a lot of serious works with her, probably just two works between now and the race,” said trainer Mike Hushion. “She puts a lot into anything she does. I want to just maintain where she is right now.”
Artemis Agrotera, who Hushion described as a “leggy” filly with a long stride, said both drills would come at her base of Belmont. He said the plan is to fly Artemis Agrotera – to be ridden by Jose Lezcano – to Santa Anita five days before the Breeders’ Cup.
Sweet Reason, a troubled second in the Frizette, will likely ship to Southern California about 10 days in advance of the race in order to have a work over the Santa Anita track, said trainer Leah Gyarmati. The drill would be the second of two planned works before the Breeders’ Cup. The first would come at her Belmont Park base.

The BC Juvenile Fillies will be the first two-turn start for both Artemis Agrotera and Sweet Reason, who faced each other at a one-turn mile in the Frizette.
My Conquestadory won going two turns in the Grade 1, $400,000 Alcibiades on Polytrack at Keeneland last Friday. Her works up to the Breeders’ Cup will likely determine the path her connections take, as she has now captured Win and You’re In races for both the Juvenile Fillies and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
“We probably won’t make a decision until very late in the game,” said trainer Mark Casse, adding My Conquestadory could be pre-entered in both races when they close Oct. 21.
My Conquestadory, who is 2 for 2 and has never raced on dirt, is now stabled at Churchill Downs, where she is scheduled to work twice before the Breeders’ Cup. For at least one of the drills Casse said he wants to bring her rider, Eurico Da Silva, to town, to get his opinion on how she handles a dirt surface. My Conquestadory went back to the track Wednesday for the first time since the Alcibiades.
Untapable, winner of the Grade 2 Pocahontas at Churchill Downs in her last start Sept. 7, is scheduled to work at Santa Anita on Sunday, according to her trainer, Steve Asmussen. He said she is “doing beautifully” in California. Rosie Napravnik, who has ridden the undefeated Untapable in both of her starts, has the mount in the Breeders’ Cup, according to Asmussen.
With Napravnik committed to Untapable, jockey John Velazquez has been lined up to ride Secret Compass, according to trainer Bob Baffert. Napravnik rode Secret Compass for the first time last month and guided her to a win in the Grade 1 Chandelier at Santa Anita.
** Madly Truly, who won the Grade 3 Mazarine at Woodbine last Saturday, is unlikely for the Breeders’ Cup, as the Grade 2, $175,000 Golden Rod at Churchill on Nov. 30 has been a goal for her, said Casse.
** Calder puts on the $300,000 My Dear Girl, the 1 1/16-mile division of the Florida Stallion Stakes, on Saturday.
