Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies: Stopchargingmaria can earn BC berth in Frizette

Stopchargingmaria can put herself in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies with the right kind of performance Saturday in the Frizette at Belmont Park, said her trainer, Todd Pletcher. She will start as one of the top choices in the Grade 1, $400,000 race, led by Sweet Reason.
Stopchargingmaria was second to Sweet Reason in the Grade 1 Spinaway at Saratoga when the pair last raced Sept. 1. The stakes, run in the slop, was the second career start for Stopchargingmaria. In her debut she wired a maiden special weight field at Saratoga on July 19. Stopchargingmaria showed a new dimension in the Spinaway, when she rallied from off the pace to earn a Beyer Figure of 86.
“She’s a very smart filly, very rateable,” Pletcher said. “She has speed and you can do whatever you want with it.
“I thought she was compromised a little bit by the off track in the Spinaway and I’m hoping for a fast track for the Frizette.”
The forecast for Saturday in Elmont, N.Y., is for partly cloudy skies and a high of 78 degrees, according to The Weather Channel.

Stopchargingmaria is a daughter of Tale of the Cat who sold for $220,000 as a 2-year-old in training at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales in March. She is the first foal to race from the mare Exotic Bloom, a two-time stakes winner who earned $257,281. Stopchargingmaria is owned by Repole Stable.
Sweet Reason will be favored in the Frizette following a 5 3/4-length win in the Spinaway. She is undefeated in two starts, with both of her wins coming in the slop.
“I think she will be just as effective on a fast track,” trainer Leah Gyarmati said on a national teleconference Tuesday.
The Frizette, a one-turn mile, is one of two Win and You’re In races for the BC Juvenile Fillies this weekend. The other is the Grade 1, $400,000 Alcibiades at Keeneland on Friday.
The Alcibiades, at a mile and a sixteenth on Polytrack, will be the first start for Juvenile Fillies candidate Who’s in Town since the Grade 2 Adirondack at Saratoga on Aug. 11. She finished first in the 6 1/2-furlong race but was disqualified and placed fourth after a stretch scuffle. Who’s in Town will ship to Kentucky from Maryland for trainer Michael Matz.
“She’s worked well at Fair Hill on the Tapeta, a synthetic surface, and we’d like to give her a try there,” said Matz, who trains Who’s in Town for Richard L. Golden.
Who’s in Town won a maiden special weight in her debut at five furlongs at Delaware Park on July 15. Her only other start came in the Adirondack, a race in which she made all the pace.
“I think she can handle two turns,” Matz said. “She has a very good disposition. She’s easy to rate.”
Who’s in Town is a daughter of Speightstown. Her dam, the Cozzene mare Who’s Cozy, is from the female family of Grade 2 Jersey Derby winner Who Did It and Run.
Matz said plans going forward for Who’s in Town would be determined following the Alcibiades.
Also in the Alcibiades is Designer Legs, who was placed first in the Adirondack.
Rosalind, a good third in the Grade 2 Pocahontas at Churchill Downs, is one of the leading contenders in the Alcibiades. “She’s a big, strapping, beautiful filly,” trainer Ken McPeek said of the daughter of Broken Vow. “If she runs well in this spot, she’ll go in the Juvenile Fillies or the Juvenile Fillies Turf.”
The Juvenile Fillies will be run Nov. 2 at Santa Anita. The Juvenile Fillies Turf is Nov. 1.
