BC Juv. Fillies: Pletcher's pair draws inside posts

ARCADIA, Calif. – Todd Pletcher won’t have to look too far to find his pair of runners in Saturday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita.

Feathered and Angela Renee drew posts 1 and 2 for the Juvenile Fillies, the first of nine Breeders’ Cup races to be run Saturday. A field of 12 was entered Monday for the Juvenile Fillies, run at 1 1/16 miles.

Angela Renee, who shipped here from New York to win the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes on Sept. 27, was installed as the 2-1 morning-line favorite by Santa Anita oddsmaker Jon White.

“They’ll have to break and secure some position or risk getting shuffled back,” Pletcher said. “I would have preferred somewhere in the middle with all of them.”

Pletcher also was referring to his pair of runners in the $2 million Juvenile, where Carpe Diem drew post 9 and Daredevil post 12.

The Juvenile Fillies is definitely viewed as a wide-open race, with six of the 12 runners listed between 3-1 and 8-1 on the morning line. Conquest Eclipse, the runner-up in the Chandelier by 3 1/2 lengths over third-place finisher Danette, was made the 4-1 second choice. Danette, who drew post 3, one slot inside of Conquest Eclipse, is 20-1.

Perhaps the horse hurt the most at the draw was By the Moon, the Grade 1 Frizette winner, who was assigned post 12. She was made the co-third choice at 6-1 along with Cristina’s Journey (post 5), the winner of the Grade 2 Pocahontas, and Puca (post 8), a 16-length winner of a 1 1/16-mile maiden race at Belmont on Oct. 1.

Wonder Gal (12-1) drew post 10, which, considering she had difficult inside trips in losing the Grade 2 Adirondack and Frizette, may not prove to be such a bad draw.

Others entered include Take Charge Brandi (post 6, 30-1), Majestic Presence (post 7, 20-1), Hennythelovepenny (post 9, 20-1), and Top Decile (post 11, 10-1).
