Baffert wins Preakness weekend trainers' bonus
Bob Baffert won the trainers’ participation bonus at Pimlico last weekend, according to stakes coordinator Coley Blind.
To be eligible for the bonus, a trainer had to start at least five horses in designated races last Friday and Saturday. The order of finish was determined by a points system for finishing first (10 points), second (7), third (5), fourth (3), and for starting a horse (1 point).
Baffert won the competition with 36 points and earned $50,000. Graham Motion finished second with 31 points and earned $25,000, Todd Pletcher was third with 25 points ($12,000), Shug McGaughey was fourth with 22 points ($7,000), and D. Wayne Lukas was fifth with 11 points ($4,000).
Sixth place would have paid $2,000 if anyone had been eligible to claim it.
