HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Private Creed, who was a closing third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint in November, could get a shot at a Kentucky Derby points race. Trainer Steve Asmussen said Sunday that he plans to move the horse to dirt following his runner-up finish in the $100,000 Bob Bork Texas Turf Mile on Saturday at Sam Houston Race Park. Private Creed raced with the pace over soft ground at Sam Houston and was just edged by Andthewinneris. Private Creed earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 85. “It was a tough beat, but just a head bob against a very good horse – and in his first two-turn race,” Asmussen said. “I do expect to start him back on the dirt and most likely it will either be in the Risen Star or the Rebel.” The Grade 2, $400,000 Risen Star at 1 1/8 miles is Feb. 18 at Fair Grounds. The Grade 2, $1 million Rebel at 1 1/16 miles is Feb. 25 at Oaklawn. Both races offer points for the Kentucky Derby. :: KENTUCKY DERBY 2023: Derby Watch, point standings, prep schedule, news, and more Private Creed is a two-time stakes winner who has earned more than $600,000.
