Angela Renee and Conquest Eclipse put in as close to perfect preps as you can get for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 1 by finishing first and second in Saturday’s Grade 1 Chandelier at Santa Anita. The Chandelier is run at the Juvenile Fillies distance of 1 1/16 miles over the Breeders’ Cup host track. Angela Renee earned a Win and You’re In fees-paid berth in the Juvenile Fillies for her 1 1/2-length victory. Todd Pletcher, the trainer of Angela Renee, will prep his other Juvenile Fillies hopefuls this week when he sends out Schuylerville Stakes winner Fashion Alert in the Grade 1 Alcibiades at Keeneland on Friday and Saratoga maiden winner Feathered in the Grade 1 Frizette at Belmont Park on Saturday. :: BREEDERS’ CUP 2014: See DRF’s top contenders Pletcher sent Angela Renee to California late last week. She is stabled with former Pletcher assistant Michael McCarthy, who now trains in Southern California. Angela Renee will remain out west until the Breeders’ Cup. Angela Renee relaxed just off the pace while saving ground in the Chandelier. She went outside the front-running Sunday Sonnet entering the stretch and then finished well to hold Conquest Eclipse at bay. Conquest Eclipse, trained by Mark Casse, tracked Angela Renee throughout but gained little ground on the winner in the final furlong. Angela Renee was given an 87 Beyer Speed Figure for the Chandelier, while Conquest Eclipse earned an 84. The final time of 1:43.45 was 1.5 seconds slower than American Pharoah needed to win the FrontRunner for 2-year-olds earlier on the card. While Angela Renee and Conquest Eclipse will move on to the Breeders’ Cup, trainer Keith Desormeaux was uncertain where third-place finisher Danette would race next. Danette, still a maiden, finished 3 1/2 lengths behind Conquest Eclipse but was 2 1/4 lengths clear of Majestic Presence in fourth. Desormeaux said he would consider Danette for the Juvenile Fillies but that she could run elsewhere instead. :: Breeders’ Cup Challenge: Results, replays, charts, and more Alcibiades, Frizette final BC Challenge races for Juvenile Fillies In addition to Fashion Alert, other possibles for the Alcibiades include Pangburn, the runner-up in the Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs for Ken McPeek; Top Decile, a Saratoga maiden winner for Al Stall Jr.; and Taylor S, a front-running Churchill maiden winner for Dale Romans. Adirondack Stakes winner Cavorting, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, is the expected favorite in the Frizette Stakes. Cavorting's Adirondack victory was flattered last weekend when runner-up Angela Renee shipped to Santa Anita and won the Chandelier. In addition to Feathered for Pletcher, the Frizette is expected to include 13 1/4-length Spinaway winner Condo Commando and Adirondack third-place finisher Wonder Gal.
