Kappa Kappa wasn’t even in the Raven Run Stakes until scratches allowed her to draw into the field from the also-eligible list. When the dust settled, the filly found herself in the Keeneland winner’s circle, capturing the Grade 2, $400,000 Raven Run by a head over Vodka With a Twist.
At times early in Saturday’s Grade 1 American Grand National at Far Hills, N.J., Zanahiyr was clumsy over hurdles, sometimes erratic and at one point nearly caused jockey Jack Kennedy to be unseated.

With great money comes great expectations. Amr Zedan paid $3.2 million to buy the 3-year-old colt Barnes as a yearling. Barnes has run some good races. The Perryville on Saturday at Keeneland might have been his best.
