A veteran gelding nearing the end of his career and a lightly raced colt just getting started are key runners Thursday in split divisions of a California-bred allowance turf sprint at Santa Anita. Jetovator, a 10-year-old gelding, and Berlin Wall, a 4-year-old colt, are program favorites in races 3 and 7, respectively.

There is a reason she is known as the Queen in the Santa Anita stables. Queen Maxima won her fifth stakes in the last year, and for the seventh time in her last nine starts, in Sunday’s Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes for fillies and mares on the track’s hillside turf course.

Racing luck plays such a huge part of who wins and who loses at the harness track, and the Amanda Fine-trained Bronzer received a perfect steer from Austin Siegelman while taking advantage of rough trips for some of the figure horses to take the featured $20,000 high-end conditioned trot on the first of four consecutive Sunday afternoon programs at the Meadowlands. For Siegelman, a regular at Yonkers, it was the 3,000th victory of his driving career.

Tom Morley was relieved, though not surprised, that One Nine Hundred ran as well as he did winning a second-level allowance race at Aqueduct on Friday. Though not one who likes to announce plans too far out, Morley said One Nine Hundred is likely to run in the Grade 3, $175,000 Tom Fool Stakes at Aqueduct on Feb. 28.
