Competitive Edge towers over field in Woody Stephens

Trainer Todd Pletcher said he had considered running Competitive Edge against older horses in Saturday’s Grade 1 Met Mile. He ultimately opted to go the more conservative route, keeping the undefeated and still-untested Competitive Edge with his own kind in the $500,000 Woody Stephens, in which he figures to be an overwhelming favorite going seven furlongs against a field of just five rivals, including stablemate Two Weeks Off.

Cederberg puts unbeaten record on the line in River Rock Casino

Cederberg will try to remain undefeated when he runs in the $50,000 River Rock Casino on Saturday at Hastings. The 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds drew five horses and features a rematch between Cederberg and Bluegrass Angus, who were the first two finishers in the $50,000 Jim Coleman Province on May 3.

Stormdriver brings momentum to redrawn Evangeline Mile

Saturday’s rescheduled $100,000 Evangeline Mile drew the original eight cast members plus two new shooters for the meeting’s biggest race in the handicap division. The Mile was one of five stakes lost last Saturday when torrential rains washed out the bulk of the Evangeline Turf Sprint program. The Mile will go as the eighth of an expanded 11-race card that will also accommodate the Lafayette and Acadiana Stakes for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds and 3-year-old fillies, respectively, looking for their first stakes victory. Those two events were rescheduled from last week as well. The $300,000 Turf Sprint itself and the $100,000 Opelousas Stakes for fillies and mares on the grass will be rescheduled at a yet-to-be-determined future date.
