Lady Contender upstaged male rivals on Sunday, when she closed from next-to-last for a nose win in the $40,000 Front Range Stakes at Arapahoe Park.

Masochistic had an 11-week gap between his win in the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes on April 11 and the Grade 1 Triple Bend on Saturday at Santa Anita. Sunday, trainer Ron Ellis envisioned only a five-week break leading to the $300,000 Bing Crosby Stakes at six furlongs at Del Mar on July 26.

Crucero, the former maiden claimer, gave a career-best performance to win Sunday’s $150,500 San Juan Capistrano Stakes at Santa Anita. He very nearly was kept in his stall.
