2025 Eclipse Awards: Super Corredora

From the time the Breeders’ Cup was first run in 1984 through 2024, the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner has earned her divisional title 37 times. Super Corredora, who went from a maiden to the 2025 NetJets Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner in less than a month, is now a candidate to join that list as an Eclipse finalist.

Super Corredora is a daughter of Hall of Famer and breakout sire Gun Runner, out of the winning Super Saver mare Super Simple. She was bred in Kentucky by Woodford Thoroughbreds and was consigned by Denali Stud at the 2024 Keeneland September yearling sale. The late-April foal was a $400,000 purchase by West Point Thoroughbreds. That partnership added Spartan Equine Racing, Robert Gardiner, and Michael Olszewski to the ownership roster.

Super Corredora made her debut July 19 at Del Mar for trainer John Sadler. Going five furlongs and breaking toward the inside, she chased a hot pace before weakening to fifth behind La Wally. The filly gave an improved effort Aug. 9 at Del Mar, dueling with Bottle of Rouge early in a 6 1/2-furlong tilt before Bottle of Rouge cleared to dominate the race. Bottle of Rouge went on to flatter the runner-up by winning the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante.

When the circuit moved to Santa Anita, the third time proved the charm for Super Corredora, who got to go a mile in a maiden special weight on Oct. 11. She attended the pace early before taking over, opening a four-length lead into the stretch and widening to win by 8 1/4 lengths.

“We always expected she could get two turns,” Sadler said. “She has a beautiful stride. It didn’t go smooth this summer. The first time she drew the one and didn’t really get it. She improved in the second and she’s improved every time.”

Super Corredora’s training in the ensuing weeks convinced Sadler, and her owners, to take a shot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies just shy of three weeks later on Oct. 31. She was overlooked off just the maiden win in the starting field of nine. Super Corredora was confidently handled by Hector Berrios, who had been aboard for each of her starts. She led throughout the 1 1/16-mile race, setting honest splits of 22.42 seconds, 45.63, and 1:10.15. She had enough in the stretch to hold sway by three-quarters of a length over Explora in 1:43.71.

Super Corredora posted three official works in December at Santa Anita and is considered a candidate for the 2026 Kentucky Oaks prep races.

“We’re excited for next year,” Sadler said after the Breeders’ Cup. “She’s well suited for the distance races.”
