2020 Eclipse Awards: Alexander Crispin

Alexander Crispin made his presence felt in his rookie year of riding and is an Eclipse Award finalist for outstanding apprentice jockey of 2020.
Crispin racked up 103 wins from 589 starts last year, while his mounts earned a collective $2,194,030. The wins and earnings numbers ranked second among apprentice riders in 2020.
Crispin is a 22-year-old native of Puerto Rico and a graduate of its Escuela Vocacional Hipica jockey school. He rode his first official race on Jan. 1, 2020, at Hipodromo Camarero in Puerto Rico. Crispin later rode at Turfway Park and would go on to be the leading apprentice at both Delaware Park and the Laurel Park fall meet.
Singlino gave Crispin his first stakes win, in the $100,000 First State Dash on Sept. 26 at Delaware Park. “I have always been really excited about this horse,” Crispin told Delaware Park publicity after the win. “The first time I rode him, we won. In the mornings, every time I would get him on, he felt better. I had faith and hope when he did race next, he would do well, and today, he did. Everything came together today, and it went as planned.”
