Rivals clash again in Penny Ridge

CALGARY, Alberta - C D Cool and Little Lolitta will renew their rivalry in Sunday's Penny Ridge for 3-year-old fillies, the closing day of Stampede Park's 42-day stand.

The pair finished in a dead heat for first in the June 2 Lilac, and both camps had reason to believe they could have won the one-mile race outright with better racing luck.

Little Lolitta chased rapid early fractions and tired inside the sixteenth pole, while C D Cool was in tight quarters along the backstretch before unleashing a strong stretch drive.

Boycott at Rockingham

Some horsemen at Rockingham Park responded on Friday to a temporary restraining order prohibiting them from blocking the sale of Rockingham's simulcast signal by boycotting the entry box for Sunday.

Although the racing office received 65 entries on Friday for Sunday's nine-race card and had to drop one race, track officials said they would hold live racing on Sunday despite the boycott. "It's a little slow, but we managed to put together a program," said Ed Callahan, Rockingham's general manager, on Friday afternoon.

Migliore looks past close call to Saratoga

ELMONT, N.Y. - Driving home from the track Wednesday night, jockey Richard Migliore winced when he thought about what could have been.

Approaching the top of the stretch in Wednesday's Belmont feature race, Migliore heard two loud pops emanating from the right side of his mount, Bonneville. It was the sound of her sesamoid bones breaking in her right front ankle. Migliore quickly pulled up Bonneville and was lucky the filly didn't fall down. He was luckier still that the riders behind him were able to avoid hitting Bonneville.
