For Elise the real deal for red-hot Stall

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - It was Bright Valour on Saturday and Discreet Hero on Sunday. After sweeping the weekend stakes at Arlington, trainer Al Stall has a good shot at Thursday's feature. For Elise, already a standout winner at this meet, faces five other 3-year-old fillies in a second-level, six-furlong allowance race.

Classy pair return in perfect spot

Self Feeder and Zentsov Street, two of this circuit's best middle-distance turf horses, return from layoffs in Thursday's fifth race at Hollywood Park, an optional claiming race, which is one of two races on the card featuring good horses in small fields.

The other race of note is the seventh, a classified allowance turf sprint for older fillies and mares that includes course specialists Connate and Pretty Eyes and the comebacking High Margin.

Tiger Babe has a double advantage

ELMONT, N.Y. - Tiger Babe has the pace in her favor in Thursday's seventh race at Belmont, a $48,000 grass allowance run at 1 1/16 miles over the Widener turf.

The New York-bred appears to be the lone speed among the six fillies and mares entered. She stole away to an easy early lead in her last start to win a third-level allowance race at Belmont Park on June 22.

Jim Dandy and Haskell possible for Touch Tone

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - If a 7 1/4-length win in a $250,000 stakes race is any indication, yes, Touch Tone can run two turns.

Touch Tone's win Friday night in the Iowa Derby, only his fourth career start and his first route race, paves the way for the colt's imminent return to graded stakes competition. Owner Tom Durant and trainer Ronny Werner are weighing a trip to the East Coast, perhaps for the Aug. 4 Jim Dandy at Saratoga or the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park the following day.

Delaware Township works toward return

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Delaware Township, who with Gilded Time holds the six-furlong track record of 1:07.80 here, is gearing for a return to the races. He has not raced since winning the Damitrius Stakes at Delaware Park on April 28.

Delaware Township, trained by Ben Perkins Jr., had a breakout season last year, setting the track record in the $75,000 Longfellow Stakes to cap a Monmouth meet in which he won two races and had a second and a third in four starts.

Scotman struggles in return

EDMONTON, Alberta - Last Saturday's Spangled Jimmy was heralded as the return of Scotman, but the winner, Run Joey Run, had a story line of his own in mind at Northlands Park.

Run Joey Run ($6.70), ridden by Richard Hamel, made a move at the head of the stretch and had an easy time outrunning his stablemate, Tyko Tycoon, to earn his fourth stakes win of the year.

Scotman, Alberta's horse of the year last season, finished last as the 3-5 favorite, beaten 9 3/4 lengths.

'Princess' goes after 5th straight

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Princess Vye, who is looking for her fifth straight win, is just one of many possibilities in a contentious field of nine fillies and mares in a $25,000 optional claiming race at 1 1/16 miles Wednesday.

Princess Vye started her season with two 4 1/2-furlong allowance wins at Kamloops and then was overlooked at almost 8-1 when she shipped to Hastings Park and beat $11,000 fillies and mares June 16. She came back two weeks later and won a $15,000 claiming race going 1 1/16 miles, and again she paid a generous price, $12.

Prado gunning for riding lead

ELMONT, N.Y. - Jockey Edgar Prado had a fabulous run last week at Belmont Park, winning seven races in a five-day span to come within two wins of John Velazquez's lead.

Prado, seeking his first Belmont Park spring/summer meet title, has won 51 races at the meet to Velazquez's 53.

Starting Wednesday, there are 10 days remaining at the 55-day Belmont meet. Racing switches to Saratoga Race Course on July 25.

On Wednesday's overnight, Prado is named on seven horses, as is Velazquez, who rode three winners at Belmont last week.
