Blazing Road takes on winners

ALBANY, Calif. - Trainer Duane Offield is looking forward to Wednesday's feature at Golden Gate Fields. He has entered Blazing Road in the six-furlong allowance, a colt who will be making his first start against winners.

Blazing Road did not make his first start until last Oct. 11. He won his maiden in his third try, against a strong field.

"He's a great big horse," Offield said of Blazing Road.

It took the colt time to get his act together, mentally as well as physically, but the wait was worth it.

Showmeitall fools 'em all

Bill Denver/Equi-Photos
Showmeitall, with Jorge Chavez aboard, gets his nose down on the wire to edge Monthir and Pat Day in the $150,000 Hutcheson Stakes on Saturday.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - After dueling with Royal Lad for more than five furlongs of Saturday's seven-furlong * at Gulfstream Park, Showmeitall had to brace for a fresh challenger in the final furlong of the Grade 2 race for 3-year-olds.

Monthir, a late-addition to the field, was the recipient of a perfect trip under Pat Day and looked poised to go past Showmeitall. When Monthir and Showmeitall got to the wire of the $150,000 Hutcheson, many of the 13,575 in attendance thought Showmeitall had succumbed in the final stride - including Manny Tortora, trainer of Showmeitall.
