Came Home wins Swaps

Came Home won his fifth stakes of 2002 in Sunday's $500,000 Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Came Home surpassed $1 million in earnings and won his fifth stakes of 2002 in Sunday's $500,000 , a performance that left new jockey Mike Smith wondering what the colt could have done if he had concentrated.

"He was looking around a lot more than I remember him doing," Smith said. Smith rode Came Home for the first time in the Grade 2 Swaps, replacing the retired Chris McCarron.

Sent off as the 1-2 favorite, Came Home led through fractions of 23.51 and 47.06 seconds and was never threatened, winning by 1 1-4 lengths over Like a Hero.

Summer Swing captures Bernie Dowd

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Summer Swing closed from far back off a rapid pace and stormed by the leaders in mid-stretch to win the $50,000 Bernie Dowd Handicap for 3-year-olds and up at Monmouth Sunday.

Sheryar Special set the quick early fractions of 21.64, 44.27 while H.M.S. Jackson and Spectacular Slew sat off the pacesetter. Turning for home, jockey Eddie King darted Summer Swing off the rail and to the outside, and he came six-wide down the stretch to draw off for a 2 1/2-length victory.

Rights Reserved best in Colin

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Rights Reserved won his maiden in a lucrative way at Woodbine Sunday, taking the $133,625 Colin Stakes for 2-year-olds under Robert Landry.

It was the first stakes victory for trainer Gail Casselman, who owns Rights Reserved in partnership with John Mitchell.

"He's been a little fractions at the gate," said Landry, "and Gail's been doing a lot of work with him. He got away well, and had a good trip."

Channing Way is game winner in Vacaville

VALLEJO, Calif. - Odds-on favorite Channing Way battled Hadl while setting speedy fractions and outlasted her rival by a neck to win the $50,770 Vacaville Handicap on Saturday at the Solano County Fair.

The two battled through fractions of 21.10, 43.88 and 55.97 before Channing Way scored her first victory of the year and seventh win in 11 starts. Her winning time in the six-furlong race for older fillies and mares was 1:09.38. Late-running Fancee Bargain was third, a neck behind Hadl.

Pick six carryover reaches $171,548

INGLEWOOD, Calif.-There is a pick six carryover of $171,548 for Sunday's program at Hollywood Park after favorites failed to win any of the pick six races on Saturday.

Sunday's 10-race program includes the $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup, the richest race of the meeting, and a $1 million guaranteed pick six pool, which should be easily reached with the additional lure of the carryover.

The winners of Saturday's pick six races were Osho ($22.80), Real Paranoide ($28.60), Golden Hare ($13.40), Symph ($10.80), Honesty Darling ($15.60) and Suave Meteorite ($7.40).

Gold Mover and Jerry Bailey take advantage of a 12-pound weight break to wear down Xtra Heat and win the $400,000 Princess Rooney.

MIAMI - Trainer Mark Hennig is among the nation's leaders in stakes races won this year. But none of those previous victories gave him as big a thrill as watching Gold Mover run down Eclipse Award winner Xtra Heat to post a half-length victory in Saturday's $400,000 Handicap at Calder.

The Grade 2 Princess Rooney was the main event on Saturday's $1.4 million Summit of Speed card and also closed out a $1 pick four wager on the day's major stakes that paid $244.40.

Full Moon Madness takes Answer Do

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Full Moon Madness won his third consecutive stakes in Saturday's $82,173 Answer Do Stakes for California-bred turf sprinters at Hollywood Park.

Ridden by Alex Solis, Full Moon Madness stalked pacesetter Fair Apache for the first half-mile, took the lead in early stretch and won by a length over 16-1 McCordnskuba. Flying Rudolph finished third, two lengths clear of Fair Apache. Men's Exclusive was scratched on Saturday.

Fuse It wins Suthern Accent

Bossier City, La. - Fuse It came into Saturday's Suthern Accent Stakes still eligible for a nonwinners of two in allowance company, she exited the race with one less condition and left in her wake a solid group of filly and maresprinters.

Under clever handling from defending riding champ Kirk LeBlanc, who negotiated traffic into and through the turn, Fuse It ($6.80) challenged for the lead when straightened for home then held off a late charge from Princess Jen to prevail by a neck. Raymond's Dream was another length and three quarters back followed by Little Angel.

Orientate romps in Smile

MIAMI - Trainer D. Wayne Lukas recently retired sprint star Snow Ridge due to injury. But he has wasted little time finding a suitable replacement in Orientate, who posted his second major sprint stakes victory in two weeks, drawing off to a six-length victory over Echo Eddie in Saturday's $400,000 Smile Sprint Handicap at Calder.

The Smile was the co-feature on Saturday's $1.4 million Summit of Speed program, along with the $400,000 Princess Rooney Handicap.
