Lord Nelson tries for repeat in Classic

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - B.C. Cup Day, featuring eight races restricted to B.C.-breds, seven of them stakes, is scheduled for this Monday afternoon at Hastings with the first post set for 2:23 pm.

Clearly the highlight of the day will be the match-up between Lord Nelson and Kid Katabatic in the $65,000 B.C. Cup Classic. The six other added money races are worth $50,000 each.

Will Classic be Kid's swan song?

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - One of the reasons Kid Katabatic is still competitive in stakes company as a 9-year-old is the way he's been handled by his owner-trainer Shauna Ferguson. As she puts it, she's babied him throughout his career. The Kid has started only 37 times and any time that he showed any signs of wear and tear, Ferguson would stop on him. Given his advanced age, and the way Ferguson treats him, it's very possible that this Monday's B.C. Cup Classic could be his last race.

Light field prompts Buck to change plans

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Slowly but surely, the prospective field for Monday's Victoriana Stakes diminished this week.

First it was Nymphenburg, the defending champion in the race, who was forced into retirement by injury.

Then Devastating, a multiple stakes winner, was taken out of consideration and pointed toward Saratoga's upcoming Ballerina.

Finally, Classic Ingrid, a stakes-placed filly in good form, suffered an untimely physical setback.
