Morvich a monsterless spot for I Love Silver

ARCADIA, Calif. - Over the last 18 months, I Love Silver has chased Point Given, Mizzen Mast, and Disturbingthepeace when all were in the best form of their careers.

For once, trainer Dean Greenman would like to see I Love Silver start in a stakes without facing a top-class runner. The opportunity could come in Sunday's $100,000 Morvich Handicap at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course at Santa Anita.

"It's more important to be with my family right now than work," Gomez said. "I could go back this week, but I'm not going to. My family gets turned down a lot."

Twice more with feeling on turf

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The E.P. Taylor turf course, the scene of some of Woodbine's greatest moments, will go into hibernation following Sunday's program.

But first there is the not-so-small matter of a Sunday stakes doubleheader, the Labeeb and River Memories, to give the course a rousing send-off.

Both the Labeeb, for 3-year-olds and upward, and the River Memories, for fillies and mares, are overnight stakes contested over one mile. Both have proved to be very popular, attracting the maximum 14 entrants, plus three horses on the also-eligible list for the Labeeb.

BVan Horne didn't return empty-handed

PORTLAND, Ore. - On the face of it, trainer Debbie Van Horne's recent trip to Southern California was pretty much a bust. Van Horne took 2-year-old Knightsbridge Road to Santa Anita for the six-furlong Sunny Slope Stakes on Oct. 19, but he was used up chasing the torrid pace of eventual winner Only the Best and virtually eased in the stretch, finishing last.
