Added Edge wins Nashua to go 4 for 4

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Canadian shipper Added Edge remained undefeated in four starts by winning Saturday's $109,700 Nashua Stakes for 2-year-olds at Aqueduct.

Under jockey Patrick Husbands, Added Edge was a 2 1/4-length winner over Outer Reef. Boston Bull, the 4-5 favorite, finished third, a half-length behind Outer Reef.

Roaring Fever, Wacky for Love, Formidable Fox, and Areyouamused completed the order of finish in the Grade 3 Nashua. Pretty Wild was scratched in the morning with an injury.

Red Bullet sails in return race

Red Bullet delivered the kind of performance his connections wanted to see in his return to the races after a long layoff Saturday at Delaware Park.

Making his first start since late March, Red Bullet ($5.40) came flying through the stretch to draw off to a 2 1/2-length victory in the $61,100 Foggy Road Stakes.

New York-based trainer Joe Orseno shipped Red Bullet to Delaware for the six-furlong stakes in order to give the 2000 Preakness winner a prep for the Nov. 30 Cigar Mile.

Pretty Wild to have surgery

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Pretty Wild, who would have been among the favorites for Saturday's $100,000-added Nashua at Aqueduct, was scratched after a bone chip was discovered in his right knee.

Pretty Wild, who is trained by Stanley Hough, will undergo surgery on Sunday or Monday at Dr. Stephen Selway's veterinary clinic at Belmont Park.

Hough, who said that Pretty Wild was not in any discomfort, indicated the 2-year-old colt will need 90 days to recover from the surgery.

Dead heat, DQ in Coronation

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Arco's Gold dead-heated for the win with favored Mobil in Saturday's $250,000 Coronation Futurity at Woodbine, but was awarded first money by disqualification, because Mobil's rider struck him with his whip in the stretch run.

Mobil led the way under Todd Kabel in the nine-furlong event for 2-year-olds, while being pressed by Snake Pit through quick fractions. Mobil kicked clear heading into the far turn, as Arco's Gold loomed into contention under Constant Montpellier.

Kimberlite Pipe wires Carey Memorial rivals

STICKNEY, Ill. - The Canadian shipper Kimberlite Pipe led from start to finish Saturday in the Robert Carey Memorial Handicap, scoring his first graded stakes win since the 1999 Louisiana Derby.

On a turf course that has favored speed the first two days of the Hawthorne meet, Kimberlite Pipe sped to a clear early advantage under jockey Chris Emigh. He took a 1 1/2-length lead into the stretch and held on by a half-length over a group of closers headed by Aslaaf, who had a half-length on the local longshot Major Omansky.

Belle of Perintown gobbles up ground late

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For four races, Belle of Perintown had trainer Eddie Kenneally scratching his head. The filly was unable to win a maiden race during that time, but Saturday, fresh off her first career win, she posted her second straight victory when she surged past Star of Atticus and favored Souris in the final yards of the $111,100 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs.

"She was unfortunate, but now she's rolling," a jubilant Kenneally said after Belle of Perintown, ridden by Mark Guidry, gave him his first Churchill stakes win.

Dawn of the Condor rides the rail

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - With an electrifying late move on the rail, Dawn of the Condor flew home a two-length winner of Saturday's $150,000 at Aqueduct.

North East Bound, the 5-2 favorite, set soft fractions, but came up empty in the final furlong and finished sixth in the nine-horse field of turf runners.

Serial Bride was second in the Grade 2 Knickerbocker, a neck in front of the third-place finisher, Polish Miner.

Identical miles for stakes duo

MIAMI - Best of the Rest, who returned from a three-month layoff to finish second behind Pay the Preacher in the Spend a Buck Handicap, and the top 3-year-old filly Cellars Shiraz topped a busy work tab Saturday morning at Calder.

Best of the Rest worked a mile in 1:44.40 for trainer Eddie Plesa Jr. as he prepares for a possible rematch with Pay the Preacher in the $200,000 Carl G. Rose Classic, co-feature on the $1 million Florida Millions card on Nov. 16.

Pay the Preacher would have to be supplemented to the Rose at a cost of $7,500.

Playfair license approved

OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Washington Horse Racing Commission issued an order late Friday afternoon which approves the application of Las Vegas businessman Eric Nelson for a license to operate Playfair Race Course in Spokane. Playfair has been closed since July 2001.

$359,906 Pick six carryover at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif.-There is a two-day pick six carryover of $359,906 for Saturday's California Cup program at Santa Anita.

The California Cup highlights statebreds in eight stakes and two starter handicaps for ex-claimers. First post time is noon.

The pick six covers the fifth through 10th races. The first four races are two starter handicaps, the $150,000 Matron for fillies and mares and the Juvenile over 1 1/16 miles.
