Pick six carrryover reaches $155,872

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The surprise win by Debonair Joe at 52-1 in Saturday's Vernon Underwood Stakes has created a pick six carryover of $155,872 for Sunday's program at Hollywood Park.

The pick six covers the fourth through ninth races of a nine-race program that begins at 12:30 p.m.

There are no late scratches in the pick six races, which includes two turf races and four sprints.

Slew the Red and Motto are the top contenders in the fourth race, an allowance race over 1 1-4 miles on turf. There are only five starters.

Premeditation takes Yuletide Derby

Sunland Park, N. M. - In Saturday's $50,000 Yuletide Derby William L. Clifton's heavily favored Premeditation benefited from an early speed duel that left front-running Lou's Expectation weary in deep stretch. Lou's Expectation set fractions of 21.80 and 44.13 under Daryl Montoya, racing along the rail while being pressured by longshot Mr. Crimson. Lou's Expectation and Montoya shook off that rival entering the stretch to be three in front at the eighth pole.

Krone pulls upset in Underwood

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The ex-claimer Debonair Joe produced a string of milestones with his upset victory in Saturday's $100,000 Vernon O. Underwood Stakes at Hollywood Park.

The longest shot in the field of nine, the 3-year-old Debonair Joe ($107.60) gave Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone the first stakes win of her five-week comeback and gave 25-year-old trainer Juan Pablo Silva the first stakes win of his career. Krone returned to riding in early November, following a break of 2 1-2 years.

Bumping fails to derail Continental Red

Continental Red and Pat Valenzuela win the Great State Challenge Classic by a length after being involved in a bumping incident in upper stretch.

HOUSTON - Continental Red survived a stewards' inquiry after surging past Pass Rush to win the $210,500 , giving California-breds their second victory in the inaugural six-race series run Saturday at Sam Houston Race Park.

Continental Red, ridden by Pat Valenzuela, stalked the pace in the 1 1/8-mile Classic before finally getting past front-running Pass Rush by a length in the final yards. In midstretch, Continental Red had bumped soundly with eventual third-place finisher Pickupspeed, but the Sam Houston stewards ruled the incident was not enough to warrant a disqualification.

Pokey pace ideal for 'Mom'

MIAMI - Wander Mom, who had been narrowly beaten on several occasions over the past two seasons in her quest for a graded stakes victory, finally got the job done when she outlasted Strawberry Blonde and eight other older fillies and mares in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap at Calder.

The My Charmer was one of four stakes races, each worth $100,000, on Saturday's Grand Slam I program at Calder.

Krieger gives Coa fifth win on card
