Ema Bovary edges Lacie Girl

ALBANY, Calif. - Ema Bovary ($9.40) made no mistakes as she held off the determined charge of odds-on favorite by a nose to win the at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday.

The Chilean-bred filly, an October foal who is still to celebrate her actual third birthday, wheeled coming out of the gate to be eliminated in her U.S. debut in the Richmond Handicap on Feb. 16. Trailing by 19 after the opening quarter, she made up nearly 14 lengths by the end of the race won by Lacie Girl.

Acting Deputy upsets La Voyageuse Handicap

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Longshot Acting Deputy mowed down Dreams Go Bye in deep stretch en route to a daylight victory in Sunday's at Woodbine.

Turnback suits Faxamillion in Spring Stakes

Faxamillion($5) is a length clear of Front Nine at the wire of Saturday night's $35,000 Spring Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.

Faxamillion responded to the turnback to seven furlongs with a one-length win over Front Nine in the $35,000 Spring Stakes for statebreds on Saturday night at Sam Houston Race Park.

It was another 11.25 lengths back in third to Social Expense.

Faxamillion($5) stalked the pace early in the Spring, took the lead in the stretch and went on to cover the distance in 1:24.68. Jeremy Beasley rode the winner for Heiligbrodt Racing Stable and leading trainer Steve Asmussen.

Salty Farma best in Goddess Handicap

Salty Farma returned to racing over her best distance Saturday night and picked up her first career stakes win in the $100,000 Goddess Handicap at one mile at Delta Downs in Vinton, La.

She finished two and a half lengths clear of runner-up Blue Guru, while it was another length back in third to Meteor Miracle.

Salty Farma($3.80) stalked pacesetter Sultry Fluff through a half-mile in 47.91 seconds, then took over from there and went on to cover the distance over a fast track in 1:39.20.

Noches de Rosa upsets Santa Ana

ARCADIA, Calif. - A slow pace allowed the frontrunning Noches de Rosa to pull an upset in Saturday's $150,000 Santa Ana Handicap and avoid the trouble the plagued the heavily favored Megahertz.

Scoring her first graded stakes win since arriving from South America last year, Noches de Rosa ran 1 1-8 miles on turf in 1:48.31. Ridden by Mike Smith, Noches de Rosa finished a half-length in front of Garden in the Rain, who finished a neck in front of Megahertz, the even-money favorite.

Baze suspended five days

ALBANY, Calif. - Russell Baze, who leads the nation in riding victories, was handed a five-day suspension by Golden Gate Fields stewards Saturday.

Baze will miss the final four days of the Golden Gate Fields meeting (March 27-30) and opening day at Bay Meadows (April 2) after he was disqualified from first to second aboard Uncle Jack in Friday's second race. He would be able to ride in Saturday's $100,000 Grade 3 Berkeley Handicap because it is a designated race.

Baze just served a three-day suspension March 13-15.
