Tweed has all the speed

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan - Five fillies and mares will try to catch Tweed in Saturday's $5,000 Matron Handicap at six furlongs.

Tweed, a well-traveled 7-year-old, merits top billing based upon her 2-for-2 record at Marquis Downs, with her most recent score coming two weeks ago in the allowance prep for the Matron.

That race was run over a muddy course. Tweed assumed command early in the race, opened up a couple lengths, and was never really challenged while scoring by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:14.10. Tim Moccasin retains the mount.

Agosti tied atop trainer standings

FORT ERIE, Ontario - Tom Agosti saddled just three horses during the past week at Fort Erie and scored with two of them.

His 16 wins puts him in a tie for first place in the trainer standings with Layne Giliforte. Agosti, however, has 29 fewer starts than his rival, who has 76.

The loss this week, to Woodbine shipper Ocean Front, was by less than two lengths. It came in Sunday's 1 1/16-mile Bridgeport, the first stakes of the season. Agosti said he believes that his runner, Right Stop, the race's 5-2 second choice, was the victim of bad racing luck.

'Name's Bond' star on rise in Unbridled

MIAMI - When he began his 3-year-old campaign, The Name's Bond was struggling to win his entry-level allowance condition. Halfway through the season, The Name's Bond finds himself at the top of his division at Calder, a spot he can solidify with a victory in Saturday's $100,000 Unbridled Stakes.

The Name's Bond did not make a name for himself until mid-March when he shipped up to Ocala and won the restricted Ocala Breeders' Championship by three lengths. Since that time he has won two races, including the Simply Majestic Stakes by nearly seven lengths on May 24.
