OCEANPORT, N.J. - The future on turf looks very bright for Southern Fiction. The 5-year-old mare remained unbeaten in two grass starts as she rallied to win the $50,000 Politely Stakes Sunday afternoon at Monmouth Park.

With Joe Bravo aboard, Southern Fiction ($9.00) swept past rivals to draw off to a two-length victory for trainer Vicki Oliver and owner G. Watts Humphrey, Jr.

She ran the mile in 1:35.25 to beat Cocktailsandreams with Caught Out third. It was the sixth win in 20 career starts for the mare who has blossomed on the grass.

Dressed for Action victorious

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Dressed for Action edged another daughter of Bold 'n Flashy, favored Miss Crissy, to capture the $166,500 Ontario Damsel Stakes at Woodbine Sunday.

Dressed for Action battled on the lead with Elusive Thought under Robert Landry through splits of :22.49 and :45.06 seconds in the six and a half-furlong turf dash for 3-year-old fillies.

Texas Chili wins Whiting at Pleasanton

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Texas Chili ($22.80), last down the backstretch, rallied wide on the turn and put on a strong kick down the lane to beat Trickey Trevor by one length to win the $50,900 Sam J. Whiting Handicap at the Alameda County Fair on Saturday.

Presidio Heights was the early leader, setting fractions of 21.17 and 43.42, but he gave way readily when challenged in the lane by Trickey Trevor.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Voodoo Dancer continued her successful raids in Southern California with a stretch-running rally in Saturday's $200,000 at Hollywood Park.

Making her seventh career appearance in Southern California, and fifth in the last 13 months, Voodoo Dancer won the longest race of her career in the Grade 2 Beverly Hills, run over 1 1-4 miles on turf.

Rare Cure ($22.60) wins the $100,000 Assault Stakes at Lone Star Park by 3/4 lengths on Saturday.

Rare Cure pulled the biggest upset of Stars of Texas Day at Lone Star Park on Saturday when he won the featured $100,000 and paid $22.60.

He finished three-quarters of a length clear of Agrivating General, while it was another two and three-quarters of a length back in third to Desert Darby.

The Assault, at a mile and a sixteenth for older statebreds, was one of five restricted stakes on the card. Purses totaled $470,000.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Now, trainer Bobby Frankel's got himself a 3-year-old filly to add to his embarrassment of riches.

Spoken Fur, who has been in Frankel's care for just three weeks, rolled to a 5 1/4-length victory in Saturday's Grade 1, $300,000 before a crowd of 14,055 at sun-splashed Belmont Park.

Yell, the 7-5 favorite, stuck behind horses for most of the race, got up for second, three-quarters of a length ahead of Final Round. Virgin Voyage, Roar Emotion, and Rhumb Line completed the order of finish.

Zavata earns his way into the Carry Back

MIAMI - Zavata, the top 2-year-old in the country for much of last summer following victories in the Tremont Stakes and Saratoga Special, is heading to Florida to compete in the $300,000 Carry Back Stakes on July 12. Tam's Terms overcame an eventful start and went on to win the $50,000 Da Hoss at Colonial Downs Saturday. Tam's Terms stumbled just after the start of the one-mile turf race, clipped the heels of a rival, and had his rider lose his irons but recovered to rally for a one-length win over Union One. Coco's Madness finished third.

Tam's Terms ($4.20) completed the distance in 1:37.95 over a firm course and was ridden by Horatio Karamanos for trainer Lawrence Murray.

Prairie: Dashboard Drummer easily

ALTOONA, Iowa - Dashboard Drummer ($20.80) stalked the dueling leaders around the turn, hit the front in midstretch, and drew off late to score an easy five-length victory over Walks Lik' n Angel in Friday's $50,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Dashboard Drummer, who was unraced since scoring a debut victory in the first 2-year-old race of the year here, a two-furlong event May 9, covered the five furlongs in a stakes record 57.23 seconds under jockey Luis Quinonez.
