Bossier City, La. - Watchem Smokey kept his perfect record intact, winning the $50,000 Airline Stakes for 3-year-olds. Book Note, who dueled for the early lead with Lac Laronge, outfinished that rival for place, 2 3/4 lengths behind the winner. The victory was Watchem Smokey's sixth in as many starts.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Dogwood Stable, the high-profile syndicate that recently won the Tremont Stakes with Heckle, had another 2-year-old make some major noise Sunday when Limehouse posted an emphatic victory in the , the closing-day feature of the Churchill Downs spring meet.

Limehouse, ridden by Robby Albarado, remained unbeaten in three career starts when rolling to a 4 1/2-length victory in the 102nd running of the $162,750 Bashford Manor. The winner returned $8 as second choice after finishing six furlongs in 1:10.62 over a fast track.

Just Too Too remains unbeaten

Just Too Too and Gary Stevens win the $100,000 Flawlessly Stakes Sunday at Hollywood Park.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Just Too Too won her stakes debut and remained unbeaten after five starts with a frontrunning score in Sunday's $112,300 Flawlessly Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Favored in a field of 10 3-year-old fillies, Just Too Too ($6) set fractions of 23.32 and 46.70 seconds, and held off a late run from Katdogawn to win by three-quarters of a length.

Ridden by Gary Stevens, Just Too Too finished a mile on turf in 1:34.29. Valentine Dancer finished third.

Surprise Halo wins Alamedan Handicap

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Surprise Halo ($9), who has become a turf specialist, returned to the dirt Sunday and defeated comebacking World Light by a neck to win the $50,800 Alamedan Handicap on closing day at the Alameda County Fair.

Surprise Halo, making the ninth main-track start in his 30-race career, had suffered from bad luck earlier this year, finishing third behind Seinne in the $100,000 Tanforan Handicap at Golden Gate Fields and later missing by a nose to Ninebanks in the Grade 3 Golden Gate Breeders' Cup Handicap.

Strong Hope hangs on in Dwyer

Strong Hope ($7) scores a neck victory over the hard-charging Nacheezmo in the Grade 2, $150,000 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park on Sunday.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Trainer Todd Pletcher always knew Strong Hope had speed. Sunday, he found out the 3-year-old Grand Slam colt has guts too.

Strong Hope used both attributes Sunday to score a neck victory over the hard-charging Nacheezmo in the Grade 2, $150,000 before 8,755 at Belmont Park. It was three lengths back to Sky Mesa, the previously undefeated colt and 3-2 Dwyer favorite, who make his first start in 274 days.

Private City, Best Minister, Go Rockin' Robin and Albaaz completed the order of finish. Colita was scratched due to a minor stifle injury.

Impolite wires Little Silver Stakes

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Impolite celebrated her return to the turf with a gate-to-wire triumph Sunday afternoon in the $50,000 Little Silver Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Monmouth Park.

Riden by Jose C. Ferrer, Impolite ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.99 and paid $8.20 to win.

Impolite had caught three straight stakes slated for the turf that wound up on the main track. She did not enjoy the shift as her performance deteriorated with each wet track experience.

Back on firm turf, Impolite reasserted her abundant early speed.

Megan's Appeal graduates in Shady Well Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Megan's Appeal ($6) graduated in style at Woodbine Sunday, taking the $164,550 Shady Well Stakes with authority under Simon Husbands.

Megan's Appeal won the five and a half-furlong dash for Canadian-bred juvenile fillies by seven and a quarter lengths after helping to set moderate fractions. Boozin Blonde closed three-wide to end up second, while Dana's Lucky Lady finished another three-quarters of a length back in third after mounting a four-wide rally.

The final time of 1:05.73 seconds was well off Bodust's stakes record of 1:04.

Sarah Nelson defeats Black Ruby

PLEASANTON, Calif. - World champion mule Black Ruby suffered one of

the worst losses in her career when she ran third behind Sarah Nelson and

Smoking Joe in the $10,250 Pleasanton Mule Championship Stakes at the Alameda

County Fair on Sunday.

Sarah Nelson ($4.40) was the second choice in the wagering behind

even-money favorite Black Ruby in the 400-yard race. She broke on top and led all

the way, beating Smoking Joe by one-half length. Smoking Joe, a 4-year-old

Gill and Rose part company

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Leading owner Michael Gill and stable rider Jeremy Rose parted company despite enjoying considerable success at Monmouth Park.

The split came abruptly Sunday morning as Rose cleared out his locker in the jockey's room and scratched off all his mounts, including those not owned by Gill.

John Breeden, Rose's agent, confirmed the breakup.

"Mike (Gill) wanted to make a change for a few days and wanted to take Jeremy off today's horses," Breeden said. "I told him you can't do that.
