WINNIPEG, Manitoba - By now you probably know that "Seabiscuit" the movie is going to be a blockbuster hit.

But did you know somebody from Winnipeg did the sound for the racing scenes?

NYRA/Adam Coglianese
Lady Tak (above) will have to be on her game to beat Bird Town and House Party, winner of the Nassau County and Prioress, in a typically tough edition of the Test at Saratoga on Saturday.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Test has been a race trainer Steve Asmussen had targeted for Lady Tak since she showed great promise earlier in the year. The Test has been a race Asmussen and Lady Tak's owner, Bill Heiligbrodt, have been obsessing over since Lady Tak was narrowly beaten in the Grade 1 Acorn last month at Belmont Park.

"When she got beat in the Acorn, we needed to win this race,' Asmussen said. "She deserves to be and needs to be a Grade 1 winner.'

Unraced since finishing second in the Matriarch Stakes at Hollywood Park last December, Golden Apples embarks on a campaign that owner Gary Tanaka and trainer Ben Cecil hope will lead to a defense of her title and a victory in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf on Oct. 25.

"I'll be disappointed if she doesn't win with the way she's training," Cecil said.

Speedsters to test each other

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Something will have to give when Devilastro and Test Drive face each other in Saturday's $25,000 sprint for older horses at Hastings. Both horses know how to win races, but each also prefers to be in front early.

Devilastro, who hasn't been worse than second in his last seven starts, will have a bit of an advantage as he drew the rail, while Test Drive will have to be sent hard from his outside post position. They stand out over the five other horses entered in the 6 1/2-furlong feature, which goes as the ninth race.
