River Downs: Ding's Thing marches on

The filly Ding's Thing ($3.80) continued to march toward the Bassinet Stakes on Aug. 30 with a seven-length score over colts in the $40,000 Hoover Stakes for Ohio-breds. The maidens Crypto's Prospect and Bellas Legacy finished second and third.

Retama: Golden Rhythm stalks 'em

Golden Rhythm drove to a 1 1/4-length win over favorite Academic Angel in the $50,000 Margarita Breeders' Cup. It was a neck back in third to Caustic Remark.

Golden Rhythm ($6) stalked pacesetter Tyger River through fractions of 24.47 seconds for the opening quarter and 48.95 for the half-mile in the 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares. Golden Rhythm took over in the stretch and ran the distance in 1:44.31.

Louisiana Downs: It's Tiva's Little Sis

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Tiva's Little Sis continued a rapid ascent up the class ladder, rallying down the straight under Lonnie Meche to win the Chapel Belle Stakes. Pacesetter Heart of the Cat gave ground grudgingly and finished second, followed by Tincan Too.

A maiden winner at Lone Star on June 12, Tiva's Little Sis ($3.60) has now won two of three starts. She ran the 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:43.07.

Prairie: Patton's Victory wins by DQ

ALTOONA, Iowa - Patton's Victory ($5.20) was outgamed by Northwest Hill in the final hundred yards of the 1 1/8-mile $75,000 Prairie Meadows Handicap, but won anyway, on a controversial disqualification by the stewards.

Patton's Victory, under Alex Birzer, stalked pacesetter Northwest Hill to the second turn and moved up alongside that rival approaching the stretch. Northwest Hill's rider, Glenn Corbett, struck Patton's Victory in the face with his whip, according to the stewards, who reversed the order of finish after a claim of foul by Birzer.

Evangeline: Streak of Smoke re-pays

LAFAYETTE, La. - Streak of Smoke, who sold for $55,000 in March, made a large part of the purchase price back for owners Tower Equities LLC and Perry Judice by winning the Evangeline Downs Sales Stakes. Cool Cool Cool finished second, Cayenne the Man was third.

Trained by Carrol Castille, Streak of Smoke ($3.60) stalked the early pace under J. T. Weatherly before angling out for the drive. Streak of Smoke kicked clear to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 59.40 for the five furlongs over a fast trac

Ellis: Favorite Keiai Sakura wins

Keiai Sakura, the 2-1 favorite, outdueled Evil Eye Aly, the longest shot in the field, in the Audubon Oaks, which was scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on turf but was run instead at one mile on a muddy main track.

Keiai Sakura, ridden by John McKee, contested the early pace outside of Indy Fire before Evil Eye Aly moved to challenge. Those two separated themselves from the field leaving the half-mile pole, and then Keiai Sakura went on to win by 1 1/4 lengths over 64-1 Evil Eye Aly.

Alpha Saphire wins Wonder Where

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Alpha Saphire circled four-wide into contention on the far turn and then drew clear in the stretch for an easy win in Monday's $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes, the third leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara at Woodbine.

Alpha Saphire raced about six lengths off a lively pace under Emile Ramsammy in the mile and a quarter turf event for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies. Swift of Flight set fractions of :25.33, :49.58 and 1:14.86 over the good going, while being stalked by My Sweet Tooch and Seeking the Ring, the even-money favorite.

Longshot Taste of Paradise wins SD Cap

DEL MAR, Calif. - After losing a shoe in a sprint stakes at Bay Meadows in June and being unruly in the gate at Hollywood Park last month, Taste of Paradise kept the theatrics to the running of Sunday's $250,000 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar.

Sent off as the longest shot in the field, Taste of Paradise led throughout the Grade 2 San Diego, holding off a late run from Gondolieri. Reba's Gold closed from seventh to finish third.

Razen Hazen remains undefeated in Cavonnier

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Razen Hazen ($5) improved his lifetime record to 2-for-2 with a victory in the $51,590 Cavonnier Juvenile Stakes at the Sonoma County Fair on Sunday.

Razen Hazen made his debut nine days earlier, winning a $32,000 maiden claimer in a wire-to-wire victory over the track. He used the same tactics in his stakes debut, holding off Trish's Diamond in the lane to win the 5 1/2-furlong race by three-quarters of a length in 1:04.07.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Trainer Bobby Frankel and jockey Edgar Prado kicked off a hugely successful Haskell Day as Milwaukee Brew returned to action Sunday with an effortless win in the first race at Monmouth Park.

Milwaukee Brew joined stablemate Peace Rules in celebrating a victorious trip to the Jersey Shore. The Handicap star needed a tuneup for the $1 million Pacific Classic on Aug. 24 at Del Mar and found the perfect spot in the $55,000 money-allowance race.
