Monmouth: Boozin' Susan wins duel

Boozin' Susan outdueled favorite Tangier Sound in the $50,000 Incredible Revenge Stakes, winning the five-furlong turf race by 1 1/4 lengths under jockey Jose Ferrer. Tangier Sound held second over Multiple Wins, who was coupled in the wagering with Boozin' Susan.

Boozin' Susan ran the five furlongs over good turf in 55.83 seconds and paid $8 as part of the entry trained by Linda Rice.

Thistledown: Floater wins

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio - Floater won the $75,000 Juvenile Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths over Dawn's Revenge. It was 5 3/4 lengths farther back to White Angel Light in third.

Floater had to survive an objection by Lyndon Hannigan, rider of Dawn's Revenge.

Floater, under Mike Rowland, went up to prompt the pacesetting Dawn's Revenge before a half-mile had been run in the 1 1/16-mile race. Entering the stretch, Floater came in a bit under right-handed whipping. Dawn's Revenge checked a bit inside the winner.

Streaking Sharp Miss tries turf

SAN MATEO, Calif. - A stakes winner and a Cinderella type hope to continue their magic in Wednesday's feature race at Bay Meadows.

Sharp Miss, a $25,000 claim in February who won the Fairfield Handicap at the Solano Fair in her last start, and Evil Lady, who has won four straight races while moving up from the $5,000 claiming level, make their turf debuts in a $50,000 optional claiming race at five furlongs.

Out-of-town riders get most of Mile mounts

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The locals outnumber the invaders heading into Sunday's $1 million Atto Mile, with the list of 11 candidates including four from the United States.

The ledger differs on the riding front, however, with six of the 10 named jockeys scheduled to fly in for the Grade 1 turf race for 3-year-olds and upward.

The connections of two Woodbine-based hopefuls have engaged out-of-town riders, with Jose Santos picking up the mount on Perfect Soul and Gary Stevens on Numerous Times.

Spring Star goes wire-to-wire

DEL MAR, Calif. - Spring Star had not gone for the early lead in any of her previous four North American starts, but facing a paceless field in Sunday's Grade 2, $191,000 at Del Mar, she and jockey Alex Solis ended up in what proved to be the right spot.

Solis took Spring Star to the front, coaxed her through moderate fractions, then had enough left to hold off Magic Mission and survive an inquiry to take the Grade 2 grass race for older fillies and mares.

P-Val edges Krone in match race

DEL MAR, Calif. - Amidst cheers befitting the finish of a major stakes, Patrick Valenzuela edged Julie Krone by a nose in a $50,000 match race on Sunday at Del Mar in a showdown between the track's top riders.

Riding Chester's Choice, Valenzuela turned a deficit of 2 1/2 lengths at the eighth pole into a nose victory over Krone and Woke Up Dreamin in a race over 1 1-16 miles.

"My main concern was getting my horse to finish," Valenzuela said. "I was hoping the other horse could get tired. My horse kept his long stride going."

Indy Five Hundred wins Garden City

ELMONT, N.Y. - Before this weekend, Peter Minikes' Georgica Stable had never registered a graded stakes victory. In a 24-hour period, the stable captured two Grade 1 races at Belmont Park.

One-day after Buy the Sport pulled a stunning upset in the Grade 1 Gazelle Handicap for 3-year-old fillies on dirt, Indy Five Hundred rallied from last to knock off 7-10 favorite Dimitrova in the Grade 1, $250,000 for 3-year-old fillies on turf.

Heyahohowdy takes Woodbine's Flaming Page

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Heyahohowdy ($6.10) held off favored Carib Lady in the drive to notch her second consecutive stakes Sunday at Woodbine in the $109,000 Flaming Page.

Heyahohowdy battled on the lead with Carib Lady and Five Fishes in the turf marathon for fillies and mares. She assumed a slim lead on the far turn, and kept on going to post a three-quarter length victory under Ray Sabourin.

Fairly Ransom best in Del Mar Derby

Fairly Ransom ($11.00) sets a stakes record of 1:46.45 for 1 1-8 miles in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby on Saturday.

DEL MAR, Calif. - Fairly Ransom arrived from France in late spring with Saturday's $300,000 Del Mar Derby as a long-term goal.

With the benefit of two prep races over the course for experience, Fairly Ransom ran his best race in the Grade 2 , setting a stakes record of 1:46.45 for 1 1-8 miles on a firm turf course.

After the race, trainer Ron McAnally said Fairly Ransom will be pointed for the $600,000 Hollywood Derby over 1 1-4 miles on Nov. 30. The opposition has been warned.

Mineshaft wows 'em in Woodward

Mineshaft cruises home all alone in Saturday's Woodward, his sixth win and third Grade 1 victory this year.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Refreshed from a two-month vacation away from the races, Mineshaft picked up right where he left off Saturday as he dominated four rivals in the Grade 1, $500,000 , winning by 4 1/4 lengths before 13,108 at Belmont Park.

Hold That Tiger, third in last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile, finished second, 4 3/4 lengths ahead of Puzzlement. Northern Rock and Thompson Rouge completed the order of finish.
