Bay Meadows: Market Report re-rallies

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Trainer Bud Klokstad wasn't sure if he would really run Market Report ($12.60) in the $65,850 Bay Meadows Juvenile when he first entered him in the one-mile race for 2-year-olds.

But he was glad he kept him in after a front-running victory that saw Market Report re-rally after being headed in the stretch by Hajji's Honor. Market Report won the race by a half-length in 1:37.04. "I smelled something like that," Klokstad said. "When I saw the pp's, I saw there was no speed in the race."

Belmont: Easy win for Timo in Pilgrim

ELMONT, N.Y. - Timo was an easy winner of his stakes debut in the $82,525 Pilgrim.

Timo, under John Velazquez, pressed pacesetter Unbuckle through dawdling fractions of 1:20.45 for six furlongs before drawing away in the stretch for a 2 1/4-length win over the favorite, Artie Schiller. It was another length back to Milestone Victory in third. Cool Conductor, Tynan, Unbuckle, and Kennel Up completed the order of finish in the 1 1/8-mile turf race for 2-year-olds.

Santa Anita: Wind Flow takes Anoakia

ARCADIA, Calif. - Wind Flow used her devastating early speed to overwhelm five opponents in the $81,675 Anoakia Stakes.

Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Wind Flow ($3.20) dueled with Hot Weekend through an opening quarter-mile in 21.24 seconds, led by a length after a half-mile in 44.06, and pulled clear to score by five lengths. Wind Flow finished six furlongs in 1:09.62.

Hot Weekend held second, finishing five lengths clear of Quanah County in the field of six 2-year-old fillies.

Spice Island wins Riddle Dowager Stakes

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Spice Island, overlooked at nearly 12-1, drew off with surprising ease Sunday to defeat nine other fillies and mares in the $150,000 Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes on the turf at Keeneland.

Ridden by Cornelio Velasquez, Spice Island returned $25.60 after finishing 6 1/4 lengths ahead of Ocean Silk, the highly touted English invader who was the odds-on favorite under Pat Day. Peacefally finished another three-quarters of a length back in third.

Lone Star: I Make Em Shake wins by nose

I Make Em Shake beat Ima Perry Girl by a nose in Saturday's Grade 1, $393,120 Dash for Cash Futurity for Quarter Horses at Lone Star Park.

Oak Tree Special ($5.60) won his eighth race in 10 starts this year when he beat favorite Silvered Eyes by three-quarters of a length in the Grade 1, $191,300 Dash for Cash Derby on Friday night at Lone Star.

Remington: Von Hemel sweeps Gaylord

Horses trained by Donnie Von Hemel swept the first three places of the $35,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial at Remington Park on Saturday night when Notable Okie cruised to a seven-length win over entrymate Spot Dot.

It was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third to Runaway Runaway, who raced as a separate betting interest.

Notable Okie ($3.60) stalked the pace early in the one-mile turf race for 3-year-old statebreds and drew out through the stretch, covering the distance in 1:37.86. Don Pettinger rode the winner for owners John and Kristine Richter.

Retama: Wishingitwas equals course record

Wishingitwas ($12.80) withstood a claim of stretch interference from the rider of second-place finisher Agrivating General to win the $35,000 No Le Hace Stakes at Retama Park on Saturday night. Dance and Dazzle finished third in the 7 1/2-furlong turf race that served as the final stakes race of the meet at Retama.

Wishingitwas rallied from well back to overtake Agrivating General by three-quarters of a length, and equaled the course record for the distance when he completed the No Le Hace in 1:28.44. Terry Stanton rode the winner for owner-trainer Bart Evans.

Volga prevails in E.P. Taylor

ETOBICOKE, Ontaro - Volga, making her first start for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden for the first time by Richard Migliore, prevailed by a head over an unlucky Tigertail in a thrilling conclusion to the Grade 1, $750,000 here Sunday.

Hi Dubai was another nose back in third, finishing a head before fourth-place Mer de Corail in the field of 10 fillies and mares.

Forever Grand rallies to victory

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Forever Grand ($6.70) rallied from far back to win the Grade 3, $161,250 Highlander Handicap going away at Woodbine Sunday.

It was the fourth stakes score of the year for Forever Grand, and a meet-leading 28th for jockey Todd Kabel, who had Forever Grand far off a rapid pace in the six-furlong dash. Wild Whiskey set splits of :21.42 and :43.75 over a muddy track, while being pressed by Krz Ruckus and favored Mulligan the Great.
