Fair Grounds: Destiny Calls takes Red Camelia

Lou Hodges Jr.
Destiny Calls, Shane Sellers up, wins the Red Camelia Handicap on closing day of Fair Grounds' 132nd season Sunday. The win was the 4,000th in Sellers' career.

Destiny Calls continued her mastery in the Louisiana-bred filly and mare division, posting an easy win in the $100,000 Red Camelia Handicap, the closing-day feature.

While Destiny Calls ran well, she had little to beat. Only four horses were entered against her, and Prized Amberpro was scratched during the warm-up period. The win by Destiny Calls, a 1-9 favorite, created a significant minus show pool.

Speedy Falcon impresses in Sunland Oaks

Bill Pitt, Jr.
Speedy Falcon is all alone at the wire following her convincing six-length victory in the $261,500 WinStar Sunland Park Oaks at Sunland Park on Saturday.

SUNLAND PARK, N.M. - Trainer Henry Dominguez said all week that he didn't feel Speedy Falcon was going to be hindered by not having previously raced two turns, and his words proved true after her near gate-to-wire win in Saturday's $261,500 .

Jockey Ricardo Jaime sent Speedy Falcon from post 7 to get position just off the rail on the first turn. He then relaxed her with a long hold on the backstretch through a moderate half-mile in 47.22 seconds with Shane Sellers stalking her from the inside aboard 8-5 favorite Sister Swank.
